What's the longest amount of time a truck sat and engine still good?
Wondering how these diesels can set, in a field, or in a garage so that when revived can still be in operable condition

If you mean pulling vehicle out of field, changing all fluids and going from there...it's a pretty dang long long time. |
I just revived a 1931 model a ford that had been in a barn since 1971.purrs like a kitten.oiled the cylinders down before even turning over.hot wired and fuel from a can and NOT the tank and bam..

Had a 81 Jetta diesel sit for ten years. Fired it right up, changed the oil and took off at 40mpg. Dryer climate so I don't know about algae.

Glenn how much fuel was in it at the time of start up ?
|
About a half a tank.

My reg cab sat for almost 2 years with a bad fuel pump and half tanks. I swapped the pump and drove it 4K miles before I ever changed the oil.

The first trip to town the CCV was billowing out steam......it came down to a normalish level after a few hundred miles. Must have been a fair amount of condensation in the oil.. that was years ago and I'm still driving that truck.
FWIW in 94 I bought my parents old '76 Cheby 3/4 ton. It had sat for almost 10 years. I put new fluids and ignition parts on the 400SB and I drove the heck out of it. The motor is still running today in my T/A. Diesel Rod |
