HELP!!!!!!!!pumped gas instead of diesel
So my son put premium unleaded instead of diesel.........WTF. The station by our house (Exxon mobil)has green label for premium unleaded and that's what he put. I'm so pist I could @"$)(;:*^%#}{_\~€ŁĄ•. More so I'm post at myself. I should have not let him.
Anyways what now. I drained the tank. Put half tank with 20 oz of diesel kleen. Started up and no strange noises. He only drove about 7-10 miles. |
Change fuel filters and manually purge at the fuel cooler.
|
Immediately? Or after I drive it some. Some are saying to drive it at highway speeds for a good ways.
|
Immediately! Purge till you are sure it is straight disel. You do not want that in the HPFP.
Pull and replace the filters. I would even suction the fuel bowl as well. |

Did you pump out the tank? How much gas was put in it?
|
It is too late...don't bother now. You drove it and all that fuel that was in there has been consumed.
Change the filters though. That you can do easy whereever you are. |

14 gal of gasoline were pumped in, and 20 were removed. When pumped said 50 miles to empty. After draining tank said 0 miles to empty. Pumped 20 gal diesel with 20 oz of diesel kleen |
That's bad...
According to Ford, it's okay to drain the tank and flush the lines if the truck wasn't started. But if the engine was started the only authorized fix is complete replacement of the high pressure fuel system, which is typically over $10K. I hope you were fortunate enough to get by without any damage, but I suspect damage has been done. :( |

What kind of damage? How do I detect it. How will I know? What do I look out for? Man I feel sick to my stomach.
|
All you can do filters and inspect the fuel bowl.
If you were to ensure all is well then a complete flush of the fuel system would be required. Truthfully is it too late for all that. Shine a light in the fuel bowl. No rust/No debris or metal..then I suspect you are going to be ok. If your HPFP was going to lunch I suspect it would of by now or the signs are there. If you see metal I would have it towed. At least the injectors will be saved at this point. |
So the rust and metal would be immediate? Like I can do this now and see if its gona be ok or not? Or do I have to let it run for a bit.
And the fuel bowl is the fuel filter housing in the engine compartment right? Have your kids ever done anything like this. Or is it just mine??? I don't honestly know what to say or do. I know it just a car, but at what point do yah draw the line? He is freakin 20 years old. To old for this kind of mistake....... Sorry guys just frustrated here |
Fuel bowl is the fuel filter housing on the motor. You would see the effects almost immediatley, I believe.
No one drives my truck. Period..car yes. Even if clean I would continue to monitor for awhile. |
Senix. I appreciate all your help and direction. Even though by the time I read it I had already made it worse. Thanks though. Ill monitor and hope for best.
Thanks to the others that shared some light to. |
