352 Engine
I was reading some of the links regarding what years of the 352 engines will fit in a '67 Ford Truck. Is it true that only 352s starting in 65 will fit in a 67? I currently have a 360 that burns a ton of oil, and I'd like to get the original sized engine that came with the vehicle.

i'm not sure exactly where the cutoff is- but the older FE engines have a different bolt pattern for the engine mounts. you can put a newer motor in an older car...but not an older motor in a newer car.
the cutoff is somewhere pre-65. |
I have 67 camper special and it has stock FE 352. I pulled the engine for work and I replaced the mounts with stock replacements from LMC.
|
Mine is also a camper special, are you saying I could possible use an older 352 engine and get mount adapters through LCM? I found a 352 from a 62 Ford with 72,000 miles.
|
No, I wasn't trying to say that. After I reread your question I realized I didn't answer your question... I don't know the answer you're looking for. Good luck

I would like to suggest that your engine isn't burning a ton of oil but rather leaking it. Valve covers and intake manifolds combined with the huge amount of air that is blown through there can leak a ton of oil. Look under the truck at about the rear of the engine to see if it is all wet down there. I believe without seeing your truck that you have the ol blow out & down thang going on. Bet the truck still runs good, right??? John :-X06 |
Buzz you are correct the 352 is out of a 1962 car: Galaxie I believe.
|
Jowilker: Yes the 360 does run well, and it has had that leak pattern behind the engine on the floor. Also when driving I have a nice cloud of blue smoke following me. If it is just leaking oil, what would you suggest for the fix?
|
I had a 390 out of a 64 Galaxie that didn't have the proper motor mount bosses, I had to make up an adaptor for the mounts. So I would say 65 or newer.
|
IIRC, "old" FEs are two-bolt, the latter FEs use three-bolt engine mounts.
What ya got? |
schmiddw, Where are you located? I have a running 352 that I pulled out of my 67, Cheap! I'm pretty sure it's the original motor w/engine perches. But ya gotta come and get in. I'm in south Louisiana

Heck of a lot cheeper than replacing a good engine. IMHO :) John :-X06 |

here's the info, cut/pasted from here:
FE INFO Another change to watch out for is the engine mount bolt holes on pre-1965 “FE” blocks. Blocks before 1965 had two-bolt engine mounts while those from 1965 and later had three-bolt engine mounts. This isn’t a problem if you plan on using a 1965 and later block in a pre-1965 vehicle. Problems abound when using a pre-1965 block in a post-1965 vehicle because some machining and drilling are required. this thread has a picture of the old-style mount: 332-428 Ford FE Engine Forum: FE engine mounts |
