87-91 cowl in 80-86?
Truck is a 83,F250,without A/C,351w motor, My question is: Is a 87-91 cowl a direct replacement for the 80-86 cowl? (plug and play) Or is there some fitment issuse's that have to be addressed? like bolt holes or ect. If so what are they? The reason I ask is, I've ran into some heater problems. Truck was parked for a couple years under a large willow tree. Heater worked properly when parked, now you can hear the fan, but NO air?? after researching on here what it could be, I belive there is a good chance that leaves off the tree could have fell into the cowl and plugged something up. I plan on removeing the current cowl and cleaning everything. I have read that the 87-91 cowl is the fix due to the smaller holes in the cowl dosen't allow leaves and such to fall through. but I can't find out if it will bolt right in or if it would require a little "tweeking" before it will work? Any help would be appericated. Thanks in advance.

It's a 100% bolt-in swap.
However, it is still a body panel, and you may still have to align it like you would the doors, fenders, or the hood. Be careful when you remove the donor one, or else you risk warping it. They're made of pretty thin sheet metal. |

You will have to remove the lower windwhield trin and watch out with the hood while removing the cowl. I munged up my hood edge and cowl while pulling my cowl. Best use a 2nd person to help.
Also the 92 and up cowls are diffrent. I found out the hard way...... |
I have pulled them out and pushed them back in under the window chrome trim. I have had to get in there and work on the wiper linkage.
There may be better places to access your problem. You can clean a lot of leaves and junk out by taking the kick panels off and taking those access doors out. You can also take the heater blower fan out and do a lot of cleaning there also. These are all the places where the leaves like to settle. |
...or you can install window screening under your existing cowl. It works fine.
