F100 1959 Project
 

I've recently aquired a 1959 F100 - had a 223 6 cylinder(according to the vin#, although engine and trans gone from truck). Considering a 351W from 1983 Bronco XLT with an automatic tranny. Will this set up work and if so what challenges should I expect. If not - any ideas???? Trying not to create more headaches than needed.

Even though I haven't always kept everything all ford, I still appreciate it and often try to. Since it's a bronco powerplant, is it set up for 4wd? (transfer case). Are you building a 4wd rig? If not, one of the things I've read about here that makes a lot of sense in 1/2 ton pickup is the crown vic front end swap. The vic is a pretty heavy car, so I'm thinking it's stout. Among the good features is it bolts right in, and the ride height is adjustable with frame blocks. It will have ventilated disc brakes, power rack and pinion steering and both frames are the same width. Then you bolt in that 351 and you really have something. Personally I prefer the heavy old trucks that ride like a buckboard and struggle with the hills, but I seem to like punishing myself..........There is a lot of info about that type of engine swap here. I'm sure someone else can be of more direct help.

If you don't do the font end, then motor mounts, trans mount, drive shaft length, exhaust and possibly the radiator are going to need to be changed/modified. Modifying the accelerator. Pretty involved if you haven't done this sort of thing before. Most certainly a worthwhile endeavor.

As simple/basic as these old trucks are and the large engine cavity your challenges will be minimal; if you have experience at doing this type of thing.
If not, ask alot of questions that are more specific, do lots of reading on the subject and be patient.
