Help with some 223 specs

Hey everyone. I'm freshening up a '63 F-100's 223. So far its had new front leaf springs, radiator, radiator hoses, belt, plugs, plug wires, cap & rotor, points, battery, battery cables, oil filter, air filter & fuel filter. Next up is the engine gasket set and thermostat.

I was thinking of checking the piston rod end bearing play with plasti-gage when I drop the oil pan but can't find a reliable measurement. Does .0023 sound legit? Also, does anyone know what the intake & exhaust valve spring pressure should be, since I'll have the valve cover off? How about the gap? .019 sound right? I know, I REALLY need my manual to get here! :o

The truck and motor are pretty solid, but it hasn't been driven for 12 years. I am in no hurry to slap it together just to have it all come apart five miles down the road, so I'm taking my time and smoothing out all the little things now. I appreciate all the help. This is a great site! :-jammin

Thanks Dude. Bottom end is good then. Just about to get into the top end. Someone suggested just changing the springs while I have it apart. I can't find a good reason not to. They priced out pretty cheap. Maybe lap the valves a bit too if it fails the "water test". Thanks again.

I justed priced timing chain w/ both gears for $40.00 for mine. Parts are very reasonable . I looked up part# for the sleeves that go in between intake & head & they are available through Green Sales. I just have to measure to see what size they are. In parts book shows three sizes?? Dude

I haven't used Green Sales myself, yet. I hear a lot of people doing business with them. They seem to come up with some good stuff.
