61 - 66 Ford VIN comments and suggestion.

Do 61 - 66 pickups have a VIN stamped on the frame?

I can not find one on my 62 or the two 66s I have.

As it is right now, a person can take a title, a tag, proof of registration and their glove box door and lay claim to any 62 by just trading out the glove box door. I assume the same with a 66 if they trade out the drivers door.

Therefore, while the bed and front end is off, I intend to stamp my 62 VIN on top the frame where it can be seen between the bed and the cab.

I suggest you also stamp your vin on the frame to help you recover your truck if it is stolen.

DMV, Law Enforcement do not go by a VIN stamped on the Warranty Plate, as it's too easy to change.

Typical example: People replaced damaged left doors with used doors. 99.9% of the time, they failed to install the original Warranty Plate on the replaced door.

They go by hidden VIN stamped, usually atop right (passenger) side frame rail, either partially under, or in front of cab.

Dunno about OK, but in most states, stamping VIN's on frame rails is a FELONY! Only automakers have the legal right to do this.

In most states, if frame VIN ground off, DMV, polizei issue a new VIN, usually stamped on a plate and affixed to left door jamb (A pillar).

I also learned that good piece of info about the frame stamp from this forum. In fact I also found when I removed the entire body for restoration (1965 shortbed style side), that my VIN was not only stamped atop the passenger side frame under the cab, it was also stamped atop the frame passenger side forward of the spring housing.

Guys, Thanks for the pictures and notes.

Number Dummy, Thanks for the warning. As always you and the others come through with good info and advice.

I will look for the 62 VIN in the same place where the 65 and 66 has them.
