E350 with factory intercooler?

I have always been told 7.3's in the vans do not have intercoolers, but we just purchased an 01 E350 ambulance and it appears to have one. Has anyone else run into this? Anyone know of a manual specific to cutaway ambulance chassis?

7.3L vans did not have intercoolers. Someone could have added one, but it didn't leave the factory with one.

I have a 2002 E350 which I ordered from Ford with the 7.3L diesel. It doesn't have an intercooler. And I may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but I don't know where in the heck you could fit an aftermarket intercooler under the hood.

(But I also have an Auragen 5K generator in the topmost alternator position, so I guess they could have moved the alternator to the bottom position and fit the intercooler where the topmost alternator would fit?)

If you could post pictures for us other red-headed step-child van guys, I think it would be greatly appreciated.

any of my readings and research I have never seen one in a van.

like said. unless there was some pinocioing the front end its TIGHT.

pics would be cool.

I have thought of moving my one battery in the engine bay down the the second one on my frame rail so I could add some sort of bigger air intake. but alas I have enough on my plate its not being considered.

Well, I figured it out, feel a little dumb!! I went back and looked further and discovered it is a 6.0 :( We purchased it on an internet auction that stated it was an 01 w/7.3, but when I check the tag today found out it is an 04, which means it is a 6.0. We were checking out the ambulance body so much I didn't give the motor much of a look at first. That engine compartment is so crammed you cant see jack so at first look I couldn't tell anything except that it has an intercooler, which I thought was odd.

Needles to say Monday is going to involve a phone call to the auction site!! Probably wont result in anything, but at least we didn't overpay even for a 6.0 and it only has 45k miles on it.
