2 different 6.2s???

I was looking at the specs for the 6.2 in the Superduty and it showed 385hp and 405tq but the specs for the 6.2 in the F150 shows 411hp and 434tq for that 6.2. Why would they put a less powerful version 6.2 in the Superduty? What am I missing?

8iron 02-20-2013 03:09 PM

The 6.2 in the f150 gets a hotter cam and ratings are with high octane premium gas. 6.2 in the SD's are slightly detuned for longevity under heavy use.

RAPR 02-20-2013 03:58 PM

what 8iron said is exactly correct. With it mainly being used to pull loads, it is expected that the truck will likely be running at elevated rpm's for extended periods. Ford wanted the engine to be able to handle this type of abuse. Also, with Ford having the idea in mind that most of the F-250 6.2L trucks would probably be company fleet trucks, they want to make sure they would last...regardless of the abuse the driver gave it.

I use to be provided a company vehicle for work/personal use, and even I had the tendency to ride it hard and hang it up wet. That is just the nature of how a company vehicle ends up being treated, since the drive does not have any ownership of the vehicle and doesn't care about getting 2mpg having a company gas card.

The 6.2 in the SD lineup has the same hp/tq, just rated at different RPM's for our wonderful folks at the EPA...

WhiskeyTangoFoxtrot 03-06-2013 10:09 PM

Got it. Thanks. I wondered about that.

Confused?

Okay, so I'm a little confused. It states an under 10,000 gvwr hp rating and an over 10,000 gvwr rating. Are the engines in the trucks over 10,000 gvwr de-rated even further with only 316 hp and less torque. I sure hope this isn't the case because I just ordered an F350 with the 6.2 liter.

Nope, its the same engine and tune. The over 10,000 has a rating taken at lower RPM...different measuring standard for the heavier truck.
ITS THE SAME ENGINE on the over 10,000! :-drink

Thank you for clarifying this! I feel way better now about my decision.:-X03

you are correct. Same motor, just rating tested a little differently.
I think the Raptor does have a hotter cam though.

It's a hot rod engine in the F350. You will like it!;)

fstrthnu373 11-20-2013 08:29 PM

also you got to realize that engines are rated on the dyno fully dressed with accessories the f-150 has electric cooling fans and the super duty has a huge mechanical fan. Im sure that plays a part.

Sounds like an opportunity for a performance increase!

By the way, if you get the 6.2 and throw in the 4.30 gears, you can get serious "all the way down the street" rubber if you hit the switch on the dash that defeats the traction control and hit the other switch that puts the tranny in Tow/Haul mode.

Not that I would have ever done such a thing, of course!

Of course !

Yeah I have noticed the same thing. I often turn off traction control because my truck is faster with it off. No doubt.
Turn off T/C, turn on tow/haul, and knock it down to 3 speeds, then, hold on tight..........................!
