removal of oil fill question
 

Can you remove the oil fill without removing the injection pump?

it just bolts on to the front cover. The ip has separate bolts are behind the oil fill / cover.

Be careful when you put the bolts back not to strip them out. They don't require too much torque.

I did that... But the rtv holds the bolt in.

Ok thank you very much my truck is leaking oil like sive from around there. I didn't want to start to take it off then realize I would have toremove the ip to do so since I really don't feel like doing that right now.

The "oil fill" does not just unbolt, if you are talking about what I think you are. Look at the sticky about timing at the top of the page.

bashby, some of the oil fills do unbolt off the front of the cam gear cover/IP mount in the location of the IP Gear bolt access cover.

Some are cast as part of the gear cover and use a flat plat for the IP Gear bolt access cover.

I am looking for a bolt on to put on my custom gear cover.

Mine is an 85 if that tells you how the cam gear cover is

Your 85 probably has the bolt on oil fill. Mine does. Look at the base of the fill tube, the bolt on has 2 bolts that hold the tube to the timing cover. The ones that have the cast in oil fill have an oval shaped cover held on with 2 bolts located under the fill tube.

Yeah its all one piece has two bolts ontop and two ubder the ip

Sounds more like you want to remove the IP Gear cover ...

If that's the case.
WARNING Incorrect removal will cause you great headaches.

Injection Pump Gear Cover Re-Seal Basics.

1. Unplug IP wires.
2. Rotate Motor to TDC #1.
   1. Remove #1 Glow Plug.
   2. Place Finger over Glow Plug hole.
   3. Bump motor over until you feel air forced out.
   4. Hand turn motor to TDC. (Harmonic Balancer mark and Pointer)
   5. If you go past TDC, Do not rotate motor backwards, Rotate motor TWO revolutions by hand to TDC.
3. Unhook Throttle linkage.
4. Remove Throttle Return spring.
5. Remove Throttle linkage bracket.
6. Unplug High Idle Solenoid wire.
7. Remove High Idle Solenoid.
8. Unhook Return Line on IP.
9. Remove Fuel Supply line.
10. Unhook Injection lines at the Injectors.
11. Remove Oil Filler Neck. (or IP gear bolt access cover)
12. Remove three 12 point bolts holding drive gear to IP.
13. Put a mark between IP and IP cover to preserve timing.
14. Remove three nuts holding the IP to gear cover.
15. Remove IP.
16. Remove 4 bolts holding the cover.
17. Remove Cover.
    • WARNING!!! DO NOT ALLOW THE IP GEAR to disengage from the Cam gear!
18. Make two marks on the IP gear at the block surface (one on each side) just in case the gear gets moved.
19. Clean up block and IP gear cover OIL FREE ... Cleanliness is pretty much everything in a good, long lasting seal!
20. Apply 1/16" bead of Permatex Ultra Grey to the center of the sealing surface and around the bolt holes.
    • NOTE! I prefer NON Sillycone Semi-drying sealants, I use Yamabond 4.
    • Permatex HighTack Gasket maker is good stuff as well, Although a nightmare to cleanup next time.
    • I hate HighTack for that reason.
21. Set IP cover and tighten to specs.
22. Reverse steps for assembly.

Is cylinder 1 on thd passenger side of the engine?

Yes

I want to say its labeled on the intake, but maybe I'm thinking of the firing order.

I figured it was being a ford but I didn't knowhow international does it andi wouldn't know what would be on the intakd since I've never seen the stock intake lol

Each cylinder is numbered on the intake runner to that cylinder, the firing order (12734568) is also on the intake.

Drivers Seat!

The biggest worry is knocking the gear off when pulling the cover, however the gear is pretty stable setting there and as long as one is aware it's no biggie!

It will roll a little to one side or the other, that's ok, just mark it where it's at or re-center it and mark it. Just don't disengage the teeth until marked!
