How would a 97 psd run in a 99 with a 97 pcm?

Have this ide and wondering about the ideas on here. Take a 97 motor and install it in a 99 - 02. Trans is a zf6, pcm would be from that same 97 zf 5 speed, as well as hpop. would it run? lets say the turbo, a/c brackets and power steering pump brac kets were in the same 99-02 location. Turbo would be from a 99-12 psd as well intercooler. I'm thining if the fuel pump in the valley were removed and the valley hole plugged everything might jive since the injectors and pcm are from the same issue. ANy thoughts?

Re-pin the PCM connector (since the harness is different) and be on your way. It will run just like a 97....only it would feel way more gutless since a 99-03 Super Duty weighs A LOT more than a 95-97 truck.

Oh, and forget about using an 02-03 truck....the 97 PCM won't communicate on the communications bus that the 02-03 trucks have.

so it is a halfway logical idea. wonder how the 97 injectors would respond to a sd 17* hpop........

The long blocks are basically the same. Specifically, the accessories from the '99 will bolt up to the '97. You can do the e-fuel conversion and have the '99-type fuel system (or just use the '99 fuel pump, filter bowl and fuel lines - but you'll need the '99 HPOP reservoir to do that). The 17* pump is a common upgrade for the early PSD's. You'll need the '99 up-pipes, turbo pedestal, turbo, spider and head plenums as well as the CAC pipes, etc if ya wanna keep the '99 induction system. The engine wire harness will be different. Aren't the alternator/AC compressor in different locations? The '97 has (2) plugs on each VC gasket and the '99 only has one. I'm sure there are some other things I haven't thought of here... (I used a long block from a '97 in my '01 ;))

Why are you trying to use the '97 PCM? So you can use the '97 injectors?

Why not use the '99 injectors? What happened to the '99 engine?

bought the truck as a no engine and did have a zf6 4x4 in it, and have been inclined to throw a cummins 5.9 in there. Am finding very many 97 & previous trucks on cl for less than $1500. Thought i might buy one and part out what I dont use on it. Have had a few 96 & 97 psd's and have some extra parts. The E 99 pcm seems to be a problematic from what i've learned so thought to put all the 97 stuff in there because i know that stuff fairly well. Do have the spyder although no intercooler so def would go 6.0 intercooler. Most likely would end up with an 99 or 00 psd and mod it .

I should have specified late '99 for the up-pipes, turbo, etc...

I see '99-03 engines complete/running for about $1500 all the time here in the southeast. Where are you? :-huh

Keep in mind, you'll need a flywheel and clutch set too!! Cheap clutch = $500, good clutch = $850+ (w/o flywheel)

Which is why forums are completely useless for actual information.

There is nothing wrong with an E99 PCM. It "tunes" just like any of the others and is just as reliable.

found a 96 psd for $200 , missing 3 injectors, i happen to have 3 laying around, might just do a compression test on it this next week. Supossedly 200k , out of vehicle. There are some deals for sure on c/l, located in east central florida. That psd in dublin ,ga with 68k on it is mighty tempting ...... thankx
