Pitman arm question
Looking for a pitman arm for a 1957 F100, I'm not sure if that's the only year or is it '57-'60?. I'm looking for a pitman arm that goes on a 53-56 box but has the hole for a tie rod end instead of the ball...... anyone know if '57 is it or do they run later.
Also does anyone have one?. Thanks |
My 58 has the tapered tie rod end hole.

I believe I have just what you are looking for. My only question is if your steering box is the same diameter output shaft as mine. I know there were at least two different sizes (i have two) let me know and i'll go measure mine.
edit: I have been thinking and I remember the steering gearbox i switched out was a different size but i don't think the output shaft was different. In any event if you are interested in my old pitman measure your output shaft and let me know |
The boxes I have ('53-'55 and a '56) both have a 1 1/4" (1.250) dia pitman shaft. If that's what you have please pm me.
Thanks. |
I will measure today and have an answer for you this afternoon!

B8C-3590-A (replaced B7C-3590-A) .. Pitman Arm / Obsolete ~ 1 available NOS ~ I sent you an email with the source. 1957/58 & 1960 F100/250 2WD / Some 1959 F100/250 2WD (two different steering gears used in 1959) / 1961/62 F100/250 4WD / 1963 F100/250 4WD before serial number 380,001. |
Thanks Bill.
I've read that if I want a pitman arm that you can use a tie rod end on instead of the stock ball for a '53-'56 F100 box that it's '57 only. I've also read that '57-'60 might be the same, it sounds like maybe there's a difference in pitman shaft size from '58-'60 :-huh. |

Saginaw used a different Pitman Arm. |
So just cut 2 apart and make the one you need. If you don't have the confidence to weld it yourself, take it to a good welding shop. I've built several of them over the years. If you are going to do any sanctioned racing, you may have to have it x-rayed.

Here is an another option. Take it to a machine shop, get a price on how much to drill out the ball and machine the tapered hole. Or see how much someone wants for one, then see how much shipping is. Just a couple of options.

Thanks to Bill I found an nos one. I have one with the ball and one with the hole for whichever route I go.
