33" tires on 1995 F150 XL 2WD?

Hey guys, I have been searching for a clear answer for days and have had absolutely no luck. I currently have 31x10.50's on my stock 15x7.5 steel rims. I would like to go with a bigger tire as my tires are starting to dry rot pretty bad(I got them from a Bronco in the junkyard) What modifications will I have to go with to clear a 33" tire? Will a 3" body lift work? I would prefer it to sit level. My truck currently has no lift that I am aware of and the tires I have rub on the radius arms when I lock the wheel. My gearing is a 3.08 i think. It's the open differential according to my gearing code. Will that be ok for 33's? Also, what are your opinions on this size tire and rim size? Will it be ok to run on 15x7.5's or will I have to fork out the money for 15x10's? I would really like to keep this as cheap as possible because I'm on a serious budget. Sorry about all the questions, I really have no idea what I should do as I have no experience with lifting trucks. Thanks guys.

33s will fit with a 3" body lift but ti will be a GUTTLESS PIG w 33s and 3.08 gears.

I say stick with 31s or smaller

CoreLokt 01-28-2013 11:13 AM

Haha what do you mean by gutless pig?

Seriously?

1. Lacking courage or drive.
2. Lacking substance; weak or insignificant.

That's what I thought you meant, just wanted to make sure. What do you think about a 32x11.50? I would really like to get something bigger than a 31. They look too small on my truck. Could I get away with just leveling the front if I went with a 32? They look like they would clear pretty well in the back

Diesel_Brad 01-28-2013 12:21 PM

32 are going to be almost as bad with robbing the power. You would also need to put some sort of spring in the front to clear them

CoreLokt 01-28-2013 01:23 PM

What gears would you recommend with a 32"?

Slowroll90 01-28-2013 02:33 PM

3.73 or even 4.10

CoreLokt 01-28-2013 02:54 PM

Wow. Does 1 more inch of tire really make that much of a difference?

bluemtn95ford 01-28-2013 08:46 PM

Are you sure you have only 3.08? I would think it'de be a bit higher. Also i think you may be able to squeeze 32's or even 33's stock. Although I'm not sure. These guys said i could do it on my 95 F250, and although our leafs are different, our fenders are not.

Brad, take a chill pill. The purpose of this site isn't to show how much you know. It's to help those who don't.

I think they would probably clear in the back. (The 31's look really small with all that space back there.) I'm not 100% sure on the gears, I'll go recheck my axle code.

CoreLokt 01-28-2013 08:55 PM

So I just checked my axle code and learned something very exciting! I thought it was an open differential but its actually limited slip! I feel so much better about going offroad now haha. it is limited slip with 3.08 gears the code is "J8" if that tells you anything else that I dont know about, I would love to learn more!

bluemtn95ford 01-28-2013 09:23 PM

33's you may still want to go up to a 4.10 or 4.30 you'de be suprised at the extra wheight those tires carry. Especially if you buy them new. DEFFINATLY if they're M/Ts

CoreLokt 01-28-2013 09:34 PM

Nevermind. Another look at the code says "18" which means an open with 3.08. Just as I thought originally. Kinda makes me sad. How much do shops usually charge to convert to limited slip and regear?

bluemtn95ford 01-28-2013 09:44 PM

Hah don't get yourself too down. You'll be fine off road (as long as you're reasonable with yourself and your truck lol). And be careful with 2wd, at least make sure you have someone with 4wheel to pull you out :-missingt.

And as far as shop charges you'de have to ask someone with more experience. I try and do everything myself. (saves alot of money) Although I've never swapped in a limited slip.
