Are you using Amsoil? |
I sampled mine at 5,000 miles and blackstone told me I could go another 2-3k miles, I changed it at 7,600 miles. Mobil 1 5w-40.

I just got this truck and changed the oil with Rotella® T6 Full Synthetic 5w-40 which is expensive but not as bad as Amosoil. I have a sample I need to send in, this is the oil the previous owner said he ran and said had 10k miles on it. will be interesting to see what the analysis says. |
always recommend you stay at the 5k oil change interval. Therefore, that high priced oil I would not buy.
Always make sure whatever you do buy is CJ4 rated diesel motor oil of the correct viscosity for the application you are using the truck for. |
Not to hijack this thread but I have seen where people mention oill samples and testing the coolent what is all this about? Can somebody explain it to me ?

As an example. If you are loosing cooland but dont know where. If it shows in your oil further investigation is required for the motor. If you are loosing coolant but not in the motor.start checking all hoses ect. Coolant testing is used to make sure it has the proper chemical balance. |

doing an oil sample can help pin-point issues. Big ticket items on modern diesels is coolant contaimination or fuel dillution.
