Newbie here, first post.

First, Hello to everybody. I am new here and have been enjoying and learning frrom reading your threads. I own a 93 Ford F250 XLT entended cab, 8' bed, 460, automatic, 109K miles. My power seemed down and the engine was missing a little. My muffer was rusted out. I went ahead and bought a Bibson 3" exhaust and upon installation I found my cat to be broken up inside so I removed it and installed a 3" pipe in its place untill I decide. I then looked at the plug wires and found them to be the original ones form 1993. So I changed the plugs, wires, cap and rotor. I then removed the air pump completely. Advanced the timing the the next mark past 10*. Removed the horns in the intake tract. NOW! it runs like a bear. My next move is to possibly install a plate between the EGR valve and install a B&M shift kit. Any advice for more power or what I did wrong?

Welcome to the forum! :-wink

Sounds like you're doing everything right.
I'm sure that collapsed converter was costing you power.
Blocking or removing the EGR isn't going to gain you anything, and may cause pinging under load.
Given the limitations of your SD fuel injection system there's not much you can do in the way of a cam.

If "it's running like a bear" what more do you want?

+1 on not blocking the EGR off.

Yeah, you're on the right track for sure. Adding some exhaust headers would be my next move if your budget permits. Perhaps a high quality coil like MSD since you upgraded the rest of your ignition system. I would double check your smog check laws in whatever state you're in before you do too much else. Since you advanced the timing, make sure that you're not pinging or knocking under load. I've found 12 degrees (The first notch past 10) to be ideal for my truck. It will knock under heavy load at 13. Set back to 10 for a smog check as the difference in idle emissions is HUGE.

Welcome to FTE!

I'm going to 3rd everything that Jim said.

Thank you

Thank you guys for your advise. I bought 2 EGR gaskets today and upon your advise I will leave it alone. I like the MSD coil idea.

I forgot to mention I have 410 ratio with posi. and I ordered the B&M shift kit today from summit.

My friend has a 2011 Dodge 3500 Diesel dually 4 dr with I think a Bulldog computer. We have a bet with him being in extreme mode to run from 30 mph to 100. Who do you think has the better chance. My Ford weighs 5400 lbs and I am guessing his at 7500 lbs.

Hard to beat a tuned diesel for torque, even with an extra ton.

Don't hurt yourself or 'pop' the truck.
I've had mine to almost 130 but it took some road to get there.

Do not bet the farm on your truck winning.

Not to sound like a mom or anything, but I would advise against racing in those trucks. They're not built for that type of speed. Notice that your speedometer only goes up to 85. (Hint, hint). Also make sure your tires are up to the task. i.e. not old and cracking and make sure their speed rating is high enough. Some Light Truck tires are rated for 87MPH.

Anyways disclaimers aside, I think the dodge would have the edge over your truck, even with the Dodge's heavier weight. Remember the 429/460 series of engines was designed in the 60s, only being updated by fuel injection, computer controls, and emission controls. A lot of advances in engine technology have been made since then. It's pretty hard to beat a modern turbo-diesel with an antiquated gas engine.
