F150 supercab frame

Are the f150 & f250 supercab frames the same?

pboffroad 12-30-2012 09:28 PM

Yea they are the same

4xFordFreak 12-30-2012 09:37 PM

Thanks. I have a spare cab from a super cab that I can use to help Mach up my bronco frame that I want to stretch to put under my f150 super cab shortbed.

pboffroad 12-30-2012 09:51 PM

Are they both 2WD or 4WD?

4xFordFreak 12-30-2012 09:53 PM

Both of the supercabs are 2wd. One is long bed the other is short.

pboffroad 12-30-2012 10:00 PM

Ah I see and the only difference that I know of between 4x4 models and 2WD are crossmembers

4xFordFreak 12-30-2012 10:05 PM

The cross members and the steering box locations are different. I am going through every scenario I can think of on how to convert my 78 f150 sc shortbed 4x2 to a 4x4. Luck for me I have a spare parts to help figure out wich will best. All opinions are welcomed

and 2wd have coils up front, 4wd have leaf. ;)

4xFordFreak 12-31-2012 08:09 AM

4wd half tons are coil

jim collins 12-31-2012 09:23 AM

79 150 4x4 is the same as the 79 bronco i believe . My bronco had coil springs and 4 shocks in front , steering box on out side of frame rail . I wish i had it back , dumbest thing i ever did was to trade it for a crappy 92 ranger 4x4 .

dan187 12-31-2012 01:08 PM

From what I have learned on here, F150 Supercab 4x4's have leaf springs in the front. Only the regular cab F150 4x4's have the coils. Well, and the Broncos and F100s

4xFordFreak 12-31-2012 03:16 PM

I see that now. I appreciate you pointing that out for me. It makes sense. Since the f150 supercabs are on f250 frames. I think I am going to still use the coils since it does give a better ride. This truck will be used in the future to tow my Toy around to go 4 wheeling

brian1080 12-31-2012 06:23 PM

yeah, all scab 4x4's are leaf. ;)

If you go with coils then be prepared to either stretch the radius arms, buy a longer set or do so fab work to the frame. Where the radius arm mount should bolt up the frame curves different than a stock 150 4wd. There is nothing where the front bolt holes should be for the mounts.

But the super cab is on a f250 frame. Will that make a difference?
