5R55E new problem

Hi got myself a 1997 explorer Australian model when I got it (here's the problem) if you put it in drive it will not inegauge but if put in first will drive normal then shift into second all good now u have push O.D then shift into drive all good (unless u slow down to almost a stop) ? New problem is, it has gone and lost reverse, put it in reverse and it engages with a small clank (normal) but just slips with any revs. I have read posts here talking about upper and lower valve body gaskets and transgo shiftkit which I have ordered but does any one know or think there maybe more parts needed? Cause it's going to cost me $180.00 just to put transmission fluid back in (rip off at $66 per 4lt here) Thank for any comments (5R55E) :)

Update. I have pulled the sump pan off and valve body, gaskets on the valve body look ok, but in the sump pan I found a circle magnet broken in two pieces? I am going to look in the Manuel and try to figure out where it may of come from, will update. Has anyone else found this before?

THe magnet lays in the bottom of the pan and just collects any loose metalic dust that is floating around in the oil. You just clean it and set it back in the bottom of the pan. Make sure your solendoids / pistons slide easy in the vavlel body bores. Minor pieces of crap make the spools stick and stop shifting.

Thanks man I was going through the Manuel like mad last night and of corse couldn't fine any part looking like it lol so that's some good news :) I'll check the solenoids are working and look for bits of crap in the valve body (will update)

What manual do you have? I have an interactive DVD for all Fords between '96 and '02 but I can't install it on my new computer.
The only computer I have that is ancient enough to run the DVD won't boot up.

I'm going to have to do some serious tranny work soon and I just want to familiarise myself with it all.
