2012 F250 6.2L -- First Oil Change

Well today...I took some time to do my 1st oil change on the new girl. Kind of hard to believe it takes 7 qts! LOL But...at just over 5100 miles...I felt before the weather gets harsh...do it now. :-X21

So...the 16mm oil plug was a snap to remove. Broke it loose...and used fingers to work it off the rest of the way. Pulled 5gal oil pan up...and caught all the oil as it flowed fast and with force. Whew...no oil on the floor! :-X04

After all the dripping...and a quick wipe of the oil pan...I installed a new Fumoto F-106 oil drain valve. Prior to installation...I prep with lock ring and dust boot. Install hand tight...and using a wrench tighten another 1/8 - 1/4 turn after. Nice clean install.;)

Used Motorcraft FL-820s oil filter. OEM oil filter came off easy...but under pressure with a good amount of oil flow. Again...no OIL on floor! Thank You second oil pan! :-X04

Did a visual on entire under and engine compartment...and happy to report still looks new! Now...6 months or 10,000 miles until the next oil change...whichever comes first!:-X22

biz, does Ford recommend 10,000 miles now or something you feel comfortable with?

I'm thinking it's around 7500 miles for normal operation...and 5000 miles is everything else with the 6.2L. IE: towing, dusty, extreme heat, etc.

Plus...I'm very comfortable changing oil at 5k...with no worries. :D

Ok, that's what I was thinking. I misread your 1st post and was thinking that 10,000 miles was your driving miles between changes.

Thanks for mentioning the Fumoto valve. I used to have one of those on my old truck 25 years ago and it made oil changes a breeze. After I sold the truck I figured I could find a new one at the local parts store but no luck. No internet then and after a while I just stopped looking. I just ordered four for the fleet, woo hoo!

Happy to mention it! :D

Actually...I'm really excited to do the next oil change...and see how easy it really will be. Probably not until May or June... :-X17
