Triple disc of single disc TC?
 

I talked with a reputable tranny builder here about a tranny build that I will be getting done at the first of the year and he says a good single disc with a billet cover would suit my needs. I tow a 9k TT 3-4 times a year. I thought about going with triple disc anyway but he says it will not shift like stock. Can't the line pressure be adjusted so it will not shift so hard? I am thinking that most here that did a rebuild have a trip disc . How does it compare to stock? Thanks

Yep, I say go with the triple disk if you can afford it. If it shifts to hard your tuner and adjust it for you.

I will go with a triple disc then. Better have it than wish I had it. Does your truck shift close to stock?

After getting my JW trans, it shifted just slightly harder than stock, not a death bang into gear or anything... Jody tuned it down just a little for me and now it's as smooth as butter. I would recommend going with JW or BTS if you can afford it (not sure what the local builder has quoted). John uses suncoast TC's now and I think BTS uses precision TC's (not sure). Anyway, get your hands on either one of these trans and never look back!:-X22

He quoted me 2200 for single with a billet cover and 27-2800 for a trip disc. He also said I could bring my own TC and they would install it so I am also looking into a good TC.

WOW!!! You can buy a precision for around 1350.00 which is one of the best out there for the 4R100.

Sorry I was quoting the whole trans job. He said it would be around 7-800 for a triple disc.

I recently bought a Precision Industries Stallion for $999 plus $45 shipping. 5 yr warranty.

Roland, what other kind of upgrades did you do on your rebuild?

300M Input Shaft, Cryoed Center Shaft and Input Shell, Chrome Moly OD Planet Housing, Increased Count Clutches on all Packs, Billet Forward Drum, TransGo & Sonnax Pump and Valve Body Mods, Sonnax Bypass Tube Rebuild, 6.0 Trans Cooler, and External Trans Filter. Some of these upgrades were part of a previous rebuild and others were added recently due to torque converter/input shaft failure at RRE this year.

Roland you are pointing out some of the parts you installed in it but I am thinking you are forgetting the fact that NOT only are you installing some really sweet custom parts and trick modds. But you are also taking the time to blueprint it and that you set ALL parts to your specs, not just within specs. Which in my opinion is just as important and using good parts.

Since a average rebuilder could use the same parts but if he doesn't take the time to set clearances correctly it is all in vane.

By the way that is one clean trans case!! Did you paint it too?/
