Hissing under hood.. Bad AC Compressor?

First off my truck is an 04 6.0. I'm getting I loud hissing noise under the hood It seems to be my AC compressor. When the AC is off there is no noise then when the AC is on it is loud hissing from the belt spinning over the clutch from it not turning. This a common issue? Can I just replace the clutch part of the AC compressor??

The compressors lock up from the A/C dryer imploding and blowing chunks of desicant thru the system.

You'll probably need a thorough flush, new dryer, compressor/ clutch ass., orifice tube and system vacum prior to charging. Check the belt. More than likely it now has some bad spots in it.

The belt does seem loose. I know it will need to be replaced. So from the sound of things the compressor needs to be replaced as a whole and not just the clutch?

The truck starts great and runs great as long as the ac is off.

If it runs OK with the a/c off that tells me the clutch is working properly and the compressor is frozen. Back to thread 4.

Ok Thank you guys for the help, Guess I got to look for some parts.... What all is involved with pulling the compressor and replacing the belt? Looks like a full Saturday of work and $$$
