Geting a little better spraying clear

Worked in the shop today. Tried some new adjustments on the spray gun after a post earlier on the forum. Please keep any good tips coming my way for spraying clear. Still not perfect, but getting a little better each time. I'm using a practice panel and that is helping. I have backed off the flow of product and increased air pressure at cap with trigger pulled, Seems to be helping.

Gonna try and wet sand tomorrow some of the panels I shot already. See if I can clean them up a bit

When to switch wet-dry paper

Here is a question: When do you switch wet-dry paper Not from grit to grit but same grit to same grit. It is hard to tell when the paper is spent with the water and also fine grit?

Thanks Gang.

Treatment of nuts and bolts

Hi Gang.

Have a question on the treatment of nuts and bolts for putting truck back together. I have cleaned up most of the nuts and bolts on the wire wheel. How should I treat them before putting them back on the truck. Should I clear coat, prime and paint, just WD 40 them or what. I was thinking about new anodized or treated in some way, but it is a whole truck and I am thinking the cost would be " out there". Any thoughts as to what you guys did for your trucks

thanks.

Jim,
For the when to change sandpaper out question. Sometimes you can kind of "feel" when the paper is no longer effective. Of course, this gets harder and harder to determine the higher grit you go to.

I was talking to a buddy not long ago. He had great luck with nail polish on some of his exposed hardware. He treated the heads of his running board bolts with black nail polish, some of the other exposed hardware got a touch of clear. He said it was cheap and easy and last a long time.

Picture of Carb linkage

Hi Gang,

All is good here. Been busy with the truck. Will post some pics soon.

I am getting ready to set the cab next weekend when our boys come for Easter.

I looked at the Carb linkage today and wonder if anyone has a picture of the linkage setup. ( 279 ). I may be missing a piece possibly.

Thanks All

Hey Jim have found any place that has f7 or f8 fenders

JimG1098 03-28-2015 08:24 AM

Yes, I did. Right before I received my parts back, I located 2 places that had a drivers side fender. One place was Greens Sales, I believe in Ohio. the other place I'll try to dig up from my records. What I did was put the part number out there. One source came from old Ford parts . Rear counter parts. If you have any trouble with the part numbers, pm me and I will try to help you out

Progress and Pictures Gas Tank

https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...f7c2004142.jpg

New tank is a repro of the original for the small trucks. The larger trucks has bigger tanks. Modified the cradle and it fit good

Had to adjust the sender unit float curvature. New tank is 17 gal, Orig tank was twenty some odd gal.

Hi Gang. Been working on the truck at a pretty regular pace, now that I am fully RETIRED. Here is my new gas tank, Purchased at Mid Fifty. I primed, panted and checked the gas gauge.

Used Raptor and purchased a schitz gun in the kit. Shot at 50# Masked everything off.

The texture came out great.

Used Raptor. Worked out well

I will address the front fenders a little later. The previous painter used a rubber coat and I am not really thrilled with it. May change it of may not. I still hwve to work one front fender over. We will see at that time

Nice work, it is looking good.

Since you put a new gas tank in, your mpg won't be as good! You won't get as many miles per fill up! LOL.
