A good Day My parts were returned

Hi gang. I had a court appearance today at 1:30 to try and force the painter to give me my parts back. ( hood, door, fender, 4 hose racks ).
At 10:00, the parts appeared in my driveway. They were dropped off and I did not have any contact with him or whoever delivered them. I was in my shop just starting to block sand the body and never heard him pull up.
We continued to court anyway, but the Judge recused himself because we know each other. He suggested mediation to try and recover some of the money I paid the painter for work not completed. the parts came back all rusted. Seems like they were stored outside. I gave him totally media blasted parts, no rust of any kind. So the story continues. I have the parts, albeit rusted.

I'll spend some time media blasting them for the second time.
Have a great evening everyone

Learned about primers and hardners after opening

Hi gang.

Primed half the truck 2 week ends ago. 2 coats etching primer, 2 coats high build primer. Yesterday, I went to do the other half. Etching primer worked good. High build primer not so good. I first replace the hardener with new unopened material. The primer was still bad. I had to replace the primer as well. Then all was good. Called the tech support guys and was told that the hardeners do not last very long after opening. He was surprised at the primer itself and figures the heat and humidity played a part. So now I am buying smaller quantities and not opening each until ready to use. I hope I do not have the same trouble with the silver and clear. they were opened to do my silver parts. Craped caned half a gallon of primmer and half quart of hardener. We will see.

Hey! Glad you got your parts returned, even if you don't get compensated for the rust you're still even except for the loss of time.

Thanks blue cloud You are correct.

Door hinges Right or Left.

Hi Gang. I looked at my door hinges yesterday to figure what size bolts to use. ( painter lost all the door hinge hardware ) I found that they are 5/16, fine thread. In the process, I looked at the hinge and then looked in the parts book. The parts booke says they are BAAA 8122800-A (2) and BAAA 8122801-A (2). Indicating they are right and left parts. When I looked at them, all four look alike. Am I missing something.

Thanks all. Have a great New Year. ( Maybe this is the year I get the truck on the road )

I hope you get the truck on the road this year too! :)

Aren't the holes in the hinges offset, making the left and right sides different?

Thanks jolly roger. I will take a closer look here shortly and will advise

JimG1098 01-09-2015 03:30 PM

Just took another look. Cant discern any difference

That's a real bummer that the painter lost your hardware. That's aggravating.

I have no clue about the hinges being different.

I'm glad to see you making progress again
Bobby

Bobby,

Thanks for the post. I went on Mid 50's catalog page. They show only one part number for the hinge. I have to assume that they are interchangeable.

Working on the hood and door today. Routine body work. I re-media blasted all the rusted parts I got back from the painter. I'm no body guy, but it is coming along OK Hopefully next week, I'll get to prime up.

Had all the family here for xmas holidays. Pulled the truck out for some pics with the grand kids. When I went to put truck away, Starter spun but did not engage. Pulled it apart to find a fractured starter gear. Took it to a great shop that does starters, batteries, alternators and any thing electrical. They put a new drive assemble on it and replaced the cables with a heavier gauge I reinstalled it and the truck spins faster. The starter still had the Ford script and was still set up for the orig. 6 v. I have been dealing with this shop for years for batteries and alternators. They are a great bunch of guys and a great shop.

Great progress. It's looking fantastic. Wonderful family as well. Keep moving forward (and showing us lots of pictures.) :)

Thanks Harrier. will do. Heading out to work on it as we speak.

The pics of the family setting on the bucket are great!!

Lord knows, I spent a lot of time sitting on a bucket in my truck making "vroom vroom" noises.

2nd attempt at spraying clear

https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...e5914e29ed.jpg

Awhile back, I posted about my first attempt at spraying clear. I wet sanded and compounded to get rid of orange peel, bur I did not like the finished product. So I wet sanded 800, and reshot a section today., using higher pressure and cooler temps. I am happy with the results so far. Not perfect , but certainly SO MUCH better then the first time. I will continue this process to finish up the inside of the body, wet sand , compound and buff it out. Then will start the outside sections. Still have a long way to go. but days like this with good results pushes me forward.
