Tired C-6
I have a 78 F-150 with a C-6 that is leaking & just getting tired. :'( Has any one done a rebuild on the C-6, with a kit from Jegs or Summit. I have been looking at the differnt kits they are all about the same price. I have not done a trans yet so if any one has some pointers or tips to look for that would be great.
Thanks Bill |
Consider having it professionally done. If you want to save a few bucks, pull it and have a shop do it. By all means, if you want to give it a shot, go for it. But Id hate to see you get it all done and something isnt right and having to pull it all apart again.

It's a pretty straightforward rebuild, check a manual I've done one in under an hour but my first took forever lol
But as nine said getting it done professionally is a good idea especially of its your dd, but it is always fun taking it apart and getting back together. As for the mistakes, follow the rebuild manual closely and make sure to soak your frictions and fill the torque converter before putting it in and you should be golden. |
I get most all trans parts from oregon performance trans.

Thanks for the info guys, since it is going to be my DD when I get it on the road I guess I will Pull it & take it in.

I had the same problem with my C6 last month and I the kind of person that services my trans every 30k miles. Here in Louisiana a can get the complete job done $800.00 pulled and installed turn key job. But, my friend at NAPA sold me a pint of trans conditioner and it has done a great job. It was slipping a little in 2nd gear. Yes, I know that this may only pro long the issues of rebuilding the trans but, the wife needs the money for Xmas. May be worth a try?

That is a good idea I am going to try that until it is a better time, the wife wants a new table for the dining room for X-mass.
