1976 F250 360ci no spark
 

hey im new to this site as well as to my new 1976 f250 highboy

i just got my new truck a few weeks ago and i love it
only problem is that i havent got to drive it yet lol except for around the back field for about 2min

i saw it in a barn when driving down the road and i pulled over to ask the guy about it since he was splitting wood, asked him how much he would take for it and he said 600$ and i gave him the cash on the spot and went and got my trailer

it started when i first got it but the carb was the original motorcraft junk and the floats where sticking bad so i took it off and slammed my barry grant off of my 351w on there, and lost all spark, i tried a different ignition coil and it didnt do anything, what are all the different things that could make me lose spark

Can you describe how you are checking for spark? What all was touched when the carburetor was replaced? Is this the original factory ignition system?

Takinging the sparkplug wire off and putting a sparkplug againts the body of the truck...
Um just the carb lol and some vacum lines

looks all original except for the distributer cap

Try checking for spark with the spark plug body held against the engine block; I'm not sure how reliable this test is with the spark plug held against sheetmetal. Another way is to hold the coil wire (that goes to the center of the distributor) a short distance away from the block, taking the spark plug out of the equation completely.

Assuming you really don't have spark, measure the voltage at the positive terminal of the coil with the key in RUN. It should be between 6 and 7 volts; report your results.

inspect the cap and rotor closely, maybe go ahead and replace them. make sure power is to the coil like fmc said to do.

i have the same year 360 and i cant imagine how that could have happened. unless the wiring got pinched on accident running by the throttle linkage area where all you oil pressure sender, temp sender and coil wires are. or bumped the dis. cap just right and cracked it. idk.

Popped of the cap and scrubed em threw it back on there and it started lol ... Runs pretty good for the first time in 15 years

Lost all spark again

Can you please be more specific as to the conditions under which you had spark, and no longer have spark?

Try checking spark module by swapping in a known good one. Check wires going to coil. I had one of these that had intermittent break in it. Check connectors for bad connections. Chances are something was disturbed when you swap the carburettor.

You're about 3 years too late.
