Brown/White Wire Going to Back of Truck??

I am working on rewiring the rear of my truck since it had a flatbed on it and the wiring left a lot to be desired. I now know through other threads that I have all the wires located and where they go except for a brown wire with a white tracer. I found the plain brown wire for the running lights, green for right turn/brake, yellow for left turn/brake and the red/black wire for reverse lights. This last wire has me confused though. Does anyone know what it goes to?? Thanks in advance

Jon

Have you found the wire for the license plate lights? I'm thinking that's it. That would include your side marker lights too.... BB

Instead of guessing, how about reading some wiring diagrams?:

It would also help to know what year you're working on.

Per my '74 factory camper special wiring harness diagram:

white= ground
green= RH rear turn signal lamp
yellow/black=LH rear turn signal lamp
brown=rear tail lamps
black= marker lamps
black/red=backup lamp
red=power for camper interior lamp

I don't see a brown/white wire unless that changed from 1974.

I've never heard of a BROWN with WHITE stripe wire either. BROWN itself is running lights (including the license plate light).

Looks like you will have to trace it back to where it started at to see if it has been spliced in to some thing else. Or cap it off and forget it.:)

I'm looking at the factory wiring diagrams and, like everyone else above, I don't see a brown/white wire in the frame harness or taillight harness, just solid brown.

The wiring is on my 78 F150. Good work HIO Silver. Except it's he no her. :) I have looked at the diagrams on fordification and in my Haynes manual. Guess I will have to trace it back and see where it goes. Otherwise might just cap it off like Jim said. Thank you all for the help!

Could be from a brake controller...though brown with white would be weird color for an added wire. Have you put a multimeter on it to see when it has power, ie, ignition on, ignition off, headlights on, headlights off, stab the 4 ways, see if it flashes?

oh and where does it run to? could also be for your fuel sender. I cannot remember off the top of my head what color that wire was.

need help

I have a 79 f150 the wiring melted from where the guy i got it from used long tube headers i have a white wire runing from the front to rear its hooked to the front driver side marker light i cut it at the light and run a new one but know the marker light comes on with the brakes plus it does not help that the guy put a flat bed on it and cut the wires to hell at the rear i got every thing working but that issue with that wire i am trying to find out where it goes and if it has a fuse link in that line someone told me it was a ground wire but i not sure

Wire is for the tank selector valve. I got a 78 f150 with dual tanks and factory harness....brown/white runs from the green plug at firewall....there's 2 wires in the plug...The other one is gray or light blue solid and slightly heavier gauge and runs all the way to the light's. I ordered what I thought should be the correct NOS harness for mine however the plugs at firewall are different and the nos one doesn't have the brown/White wire:(
