Hey- Thanks for the great welcome...
Well- let me tell you a little about me and my truck.
I have a 1954 F250 with a 292. It's a fairly stock truck other than the 292 came from a 60's Galaxy. It has been converted to a 12volt system with the exception of the heater fan. It has a 4-speed transmission with the crazy Timken split-housing rear end, Needless to say I won't get anywhere fast or without stopping at all gas stations. The truck has a little black smoke puffing out, but other than that, it runs great. The previous owner took really good care of it and updated the wiring, brakes and engine. The only things I am looking to do is make it more driveable (swap out the rear end to a Dana 60) and update the exhaust (remove the crossover pipe to ram horn manifolds). There are other things, but I want to make it more driveable than go for looks right now... plus I think the current look is awesome. I will try topost some pictures.

Again, thanks for the great welcome-
Mike B-

After getting my Photobucket page restarted, I have finally become able to post pictures. I need to put a different axle in the rear (I have the Timken 4.86 rear axle)... the gears prevent it from being driveable/practical... and I have a line on an axle from an '86 F250.
I know that everyone recommends using one from a 68-72, but I haven't found one of those yet. The '86 has 3.53 gears which would be great, but I'm just not sure of the differences in brakes, widths and such. Everything I seem to find and read is for F100's or the earlier axle swap. I have the 4-speed transmission, which with the 4.86's make 1st gear useless and if I am rolling I can easily start in 3rd. The 292 runs great, but as I was saying, the gearing just isn't practical to drive it anywhere. If anyone has suggestions, I would like to read them. I haven't posted this to the main "48-56" page yet, if I can get the information local and with someone I might meet at a cruise, get face-to-face or something like that I think it would be better... but I can post all of this over there, too.

Thanks for any help and I hope you like the pics-

Mike, the truck is awesome!! Where in Nebraska are you?

boogar69 01-24-2013 08:30 PM

I'm in Papillion.

BTW- does anyone know where I can get a '68-'72 F250 Dana 60 rear axle with some drivable gears... anything better than 4.86's would be awesome...

Thanks-

Nebraska FTE Classifieds

There is a Nebraska Region FTE Classifieds??? This site gets better by the day... This site is so vast and full of information... very overwhelming...

gpence- thanks for the heads up on the '73, but it is too wide and I drove to Kansas and bought one... 10 hrs driving, 4 junkyards and about 350 miles, but I finally found one from a '70 F250 with 3.73 gears... now to clean it all up and get ready for the swap...

Thanks for everything Nebraska Region Ford Truckers- :-drink
Mike
