V-8 gas MPG improvement?

I know there's a ton of tuners and intakes and God knows what else for the diesel motors, but is there anything I should be looking into get a MPG or 2 out of this thing?

Your truck could benefit from a tuner as well. 5-Star Tuning (See V10 forum) can hook you up. While you will not see diesel like gains in MPG, a good tune can do wonders for driveability, tranny tuning and such.

I'll look into that right now :)

you could leave it at home and hitch hike! haha!

no really tho what is your engine 5.4??

There is really nothing you can do besides drive like you have an egg under the gas pedal. Between everything ive done in my sig to my truck, nothing has improved mpg. If anything, my mpg is worse according to my records from 2 years ago (even before i started running 35s)

There isn't anything out there that will yield a significant improvement. I just keep the air filter clean and run light weight oil. I've also cleaned the pcv, ran seafoam through. The best thing you can do to increase mpg's is modify your right foot.

Less weight and wind resistance as well as some increased drivetrain efficiency. Unfortunately that can't happen without a smaller vehicle.

Skip1970 11-13-2012 07:00 PM

maybe there is a beak like attachment you could put on the front of the vehicle like a bird to make it go thru the wind better.. but for now keep it 55mph or less.

That's what I was figuring sadly. Is the tuner worth the money at all?

acf6 11-13-2012 07:38 PM

It's ok, just don't expect it to feel like you gained 50hp. When I go back to stock mode there isn't much difference. Y pipe is the biggest help out of anything, and cheapest.

Apocalypse 11-13-2012 09:45 PM

Do you have a link for the y pipe?

AlaskanEx 11-13-2012 09:52 PM

the tuner is worth the money for the huge improvement in driveability and alittle extra power! in my opinion.

Apocalypse 11-16-2012 09:13 PM

Picked one up tonight :) SCT x3 Power Flash Device | eBay Going to order the y-pipe this week also :D

acf6 11-17-2012 06:59 AM

I think you bought just the tuner there... it looks like you'll need to buy tunes also

Apocalypse 11-17-2012 09:37 PM

It says it comes with them...
The SF3 Power Flash arrives Pre-Loaded with DYNO Proven tune files that INCREASE HORSEPOWER and TORQUE! Programming your vehicle with one of SCT's pre-loaded performance or fuel economy tune files is as easy as 1-2-3. Simply plug the OBDII connector into your vehicle's OBDII port, select the pre-loaded tune file using the simple to navigate menu and within minutes the SF3 programs your vehicle.

I'm calling them on monday to get a tune added another to it though :)
