1979 ford F-350 supercab 4x4

i heard this somewhere that the 1979 ford F-350 supercab 4x4 with 8ft bed, that i own is only one out of 1750 made!? it shocked me! i have no idea if this is true or not. does anyone else know anything about this? or is this nothing to get excited over? that sounds cool to be anle to say.... but is that anything to boast about or is this true of alot of other models around this year? thanks alot for the help :D

According to this site you are correct... But this site also doesn't list any crew cabs so who knows how correct the site is.

to be honest if you get down to brass tacks, theres lots of cars that come down to being 1 of 1 with that trim, that color, that axle, that engine. i recently had my mach 1 done on martie reports and its 1 of 2 built that year with the red exterior, black interior, 428 scj engine, drag pack and so on. its kind of a neat thing to be able to say but not really anything to brag about. its not like its a prototype shelby gt 500. now thatd be awesome!!!! haha

Welcome to FTE

The only source that has this information available is martiauto.com

Late 1980's: FoMoCo was planning to THROW AWAY all the records that pertained to 1967/79 vehicles.

Kevin Marti, a Mustang/Shelby "nut" in Phoenix AZ found out and got ALL OF IT!

There's a fee for Marti's services, which escalates depending on how much info you want, known in the hobby as a Marti Report.

haha thanks, yeah that does make sense that a lot would be like that. a prototype shelby gt 500 would be pretty sweet lol

You might try doing a search in this forum. About a year ago, there was a thread about this subject with a title like "what's the rarest Ford?" or something like that. I can't remember the exact numbers, but someone quoted from a book that said Ford made "X" number of F350's in 1979, and "X" percent of them were 4-wheel drive. Seems to me the math came out to 13,000+ 4-wheel drive F350's in 1979. How many of them were Supercabs? The book didn't specify. I would LOVE to know that number! My opinion is that extended cab trucks were not as popular back in the late 70's as they are today (heck, GM didn't even make one back then!). With that in mind, I would guess that only 1/4 to 1/3 of Ford's 4-wheel drive F350's were Supercabs in '79. That would come out to somewhere between 3,250 and 4,500, depending on what were the last 3 digits of that 13,xxx. Again, that is purely my guess.
I have also seen that "1,750" number on various internet sites, but I have never seen anything verifying that it is correct. One thing that is a verifiable fact is that you could not get a crew cab F350 4X4 in 1979.
