Buzzing Humming Noise **Solved**

I had a couple noises I was still trying to resolve after a long list of modifications to my truck. One was a buzzing sound as the transmission was shifting, occurred at every shift when accelerating. I was fairly sure (after reading posts here) this was the inspection cover on the front of the transmission. Two was a humming sound when I got above 55 mph and I had pretty much decided this was not fixable and was related to all the rear end changes that have been made to the truck.

Yesterday I got around to taking the transmission inspection cover off and putting a bead of high temp silicone around the entire inside edge, and another one on the top outside edge where it fit's under the upper plate. Let it cure over night and took her for a drive this morning, and all the buzzing sound while shifting is gone, then I get up to 60 mph and realize my humming sound is gone too!

Apparently that buzzing turns into a hum at highway speeds when the transmission shifts into it's final gear. It was a head smacking moment.

Ok... tell me true! You have a guy ghost writing all these threads right?

I thought my wife was the only lady around that could figure things out like this!

:) Thanks! Determined to get her completely sound. Just bought it in May of this year and she was sorely neglected. Rust is a evil evil thing and permeates to places you would never think. Good thing I only paid about 6k for this truck with 77k on it, because I have put about 4k more into her since then. Kind of been documenting my saga on here from angle grinding rust to well my oxygen sensor saga this evening.

And let me add almost everything I have learned how to do has been on FTE with some information from my Ford DVD manual. Invaluable information on this site from people who have been under the same truck, and have been there done that!

Not for years but was when I was a teenager, my dad's sister lives in Anchorage.

And talk about the ultimate road trip, hire the stealership to put my red head box in, heck 3 or 4 of them for what it would cost to drive there.
