Alternator conversion supplier

Hi guys, anyone got any leads as to where I can get and alernator conversion kit for my ' 37 21 stud, the pulley, bracket and alternator altogether at a reasonable price. Need it sent to Australia though.. Is it cheaper to buy the parts seperate?

newold46 10-29-2012 08:41 PM

I bought my 6v alternator kit here. A very knowledgeable guy. I had pulley alignment problems with adapting the kit to a flathead 6, so I called him and he exchanged the pulley at no charge.

Thanks. Geez his alternator price is up there !

True but not as bad as some that I've seen.

Did Chris convert the truck to 12 volt, or leave it 6 volt?

Talkwrench 11-01-2012 01:58 AM

12 volt gen but looks like its on its way out I couldnt get it charging. Think I would prefer an alternator.

Did you try to "flash the field"? Assuming that you have a generator/regulator setup:

From the NAPA/Echlin "Manual for the Automotive Electrician", edition circa 1955:
Ford-Merc-Lincoln remove Field wire and touch to Batt wire momentarily; most other cars, touch jumper from Arm to Batt at regulator. For cutout 3-brush Fords, jumper between two terminals on cutout.
Just a thought. This is why I went to an alternator also.

I'll look into it... Also I see that you can oil the generator, any parcitular oil ..amount?
Quality power auto got back to me with a reasonable price for the Alt setup.

Ive gone with quailty power auto. Answered all my emails and the price was ok to get it to Australia. All up was about $305 AUD for the whole kit bracket and fan pulley too delivered . Just to by that alternator here [a chrome one pfft who wants that] is $299!. And I have to drive 3/4 hour there and 3/4 hour back just to get it.
I'll let you know how easy it is to fit etc.

New Alt

All has arrived , fitted no probs, must say they were a little rough when they fitted the pulley it was scratched on the inside I had to gently file it. Also quiet noisy.. Does the job.. ;)
