I am new here, but since you have had no answers, I unbolted the steering box, removed the floor pan cover, and took the whole unit out from inside the cab. Edit- And removed the pitman arm.

Thankyou for trying to help, so after taking the plate off and taking it off box and Pitman arm I can take it out from the cab, ill try this thankyou. But I have a 3 on the column so I would have to unhook that somehow to?

steering column

take the steering wheel off, under it you will find a retaining clip that holds the steering housing to the shaft. remove that and unbolt the housing from the dashboard. and the shaft comes out from below, column housing comes out from in the cab

the box shouldn't have to come off.
only the outer housing & circular hole cover of the floor & the housing will slip off after the steering wheel is removed the collar clamp removed from the bottom of the dash and the clamp that holds the housing to the steering box and of coarse the sig lite wires unplugged.....
"as i remember it".... been a loooong a while since i had mine apart & i installed one off a 57 automatic car on mine when i changed over to auto trans. Nuthin looks crappier than a newer column in an old truck...those old spindly columns just have too much class.
