new oil pan on/rust in fuel filter
 

Well I finally had time to change out my composite oil pan to the metal one. Nothing was wrong with the old one but Ive seen the composite pans get hit by a rock and crack so I decide to get the metal one. It didnt take long once I had the oil drained and its very easy to get to. Once i had the old pan off I did find two piece of sludge stuck to the oil pickup screen, they had a sliver of aluminum in them. My oil repots have been coming back with high aluminum content so Im not reallly sure what to think being my motor had 33k miles on it now. I also changed out the fuel filter and when I dropped the frame mounted filter I found about a teaspoon of rust in it. I'm not one to run my truck down to E but I admit I did so twice since the last filter change. Since I found the fuel filter kit for 60 buck(ford dealer wanted $140) I think I will move my fuel filter changes to 10k miles instead of 15k. Last but not least I also added SPE 6.7 Full Lock Diff Kit which allows the locked rear end to stay engaged past 20 mph. It was a simple 10 min installation with just a few wires and easy directions to follow

You may want to consider purchasing from another diesel supplier or do you fill from an external storage tank?

Also do you drain you water seperator/fuel filter monthly?

33k miles and your fuel system is rusting already?

So when the fuel pump implodes and sends shavings throughout the system, guess we already know it will be a warranty denial based on rust in the fuel system.

Well, at least you know what's going to happen. That can bring peace of mind.

I'm no technician, but I doubt this means anything. The procedure to check for contamination involves pulling two valves from the HPFP and checking for rust on them. :-hair

Troy- yes I am going to switch my fueling location and i might even drop the tank here this winter and clean it out. I drain water seperater once every two weeks at least(every other fill up) and have never seen any water in the fuel drained.
powerdude- i really dont see it as my fuel system is rusting away more like I picked up rust somewhere when i filled up and it got sucked into the fuel system that far when i ran it low on fuel

My biggest concern is where to get fuel now at there only two places close by and there still 15 mintue drives and also why the high aluminum readings in my oil excpesially after seeing that shaving

You never seen any rust when you drained your water seperator? Eitherway another fuel supplier would be on top of my list.

Also what brand of oil and weight do you use?

Question: where did you get the oil pan and did it come with new bolts?

Rust evidence anywhere in the system will result in a warranty denial...at least at Ford...the proof can be found in my shameful experience. The rust that Ford used to deny warranty coverage was on a segment of the solenoid that see's "NO" fuel flow or exposure as it is outside of the pump...

I was checking that out, and its about $40 more than what the dealer charges. $27 for the pan and $14 for the bolts at the dealer counter.
