F250 4x4 with a 300

Just bought a 78 F250 4x4 with factory Dana 60s a Np435 205 and a 300 six. I hope it has 4.10s in it. What should I expect from that little six? All my other trucks have 351s or 400s in them. It is all stock, and I plan to leave it that way. I already have a 79 F350 4x4 for pulling so I'm not worried about that. Just want to know about that little six!

If running right that "little six" will get you a few MPG better than a 351 or 400, and you will have enough power for 99% of what you need for every day driving.

Are you sure your front is a "factory Dana 60"? If so good score!

Yes. It was ordered that way. I still have to go pick it up, but from the Picts I have seen, it is a 60.And it is not a Snow Fighter Special. I will post Picts when I get it down here to San Antonio.

I love 300s. Best engine I "never" wanted. I thought I would swap it out of my first ford, but after driving (and driving) it, I really like the engine. My crew has one too. Good reliable, but boring engine. They rev slow, but have decent torque for their size. Very minor upgrades really make a difference.

Congrats on the new Dent! I think you'll really like the 300. First one I had was in an 88 with EFI. One of the big reasons I picked up the 78 F150 I have now is it has the 300. You just can't kill that engine. I have the lite version of your drivetrain, 435/205 with Dana 44/Ford 9in combo. Bullet proof. IMO, Yours with Dana 60's is Bomb Proof!

My 300 has a couple of upgrades that I really like. 2b Carb, Offenhauser Intake, Exhaust manifolds off an EFI 300 and a Walker mid-pipe off a F250 (90' or 91' I can't remember). Here's a pic with the changes.

If you're looking to make some modifications to open it up a bit these are fairly inexpensive and easy to do. I lived in SA growing up. I would think you could find most of it in the JY's around town.

Congrats on the new ride and can't wait to see the pics!
