Transmission normal operating temp. How long?
 

The temp on the screen shows that the transmission temp normal operation is about 190 degrees no towing. How long should it take to reach this temp? I drove 40 miles at 65 mph before it exceed 180 degrees in air at 45 degrees. Is this normal?

I think it will depend on how hard you are working the truck. The tranny does cool itself with the secondary coolant system. If you never get the coolant warmed up, what ever heat the tranny is producing will be carried off by the coolant. I suspect on a light work out, the tranny is just going to get to it's minimum temps. As soon as it's thermastat opens, the coolant will carry off any heat that exist.

the secondary coolant systems doesn't circulate through the engine block, It passes throu the CAC, Fuel cooler, EGR cooler and transmission cooler. So it is slower to warm up than the primary coolant. It takes a while for the fuel that passes through the system and returns to the tank to be warm enough on the return trip to actually need cooling. If you are not running the engine at higher combustion temp, the egr isn't as active and requires less cooling and same goes for the tranny. I could see where thatsystem could take a while to come to temp.

The engine was not being worked hard with flat terrain and even 60 mph speeds. It has been like this since the beginning of ownership. The truck is an 2011 F250 with 14,000 miles. I guess I was curious if maybe the thermostat was stuck open if it even has one. I am definitely not an expert on engines. Based on the information shared it does not sound like an issue to be concerned about. Thanks.

Glad to see I am not the only one to notice this, mine takes about 25 miles and I am in hilly terrain. Heck the motor is slow to warm also, about 15 miles. My 04 6.0l was at temp in about 7 miles this time of year.

The cooling system does a great job on these 6.7L trucks.
For short trips, it's too good (kind of a joke so no one blasts me).
On cold days, it takes over 10 miles to reach 195 EOT.
