'79 F250 rear axle seal leak (D60)

This is a photo of my '79 F250 4x4 rear axle (Dana 60 full floater) this seal will leak in a few miles ..what I need is the part number of a replacement seal made like the one in the lower photo ..it seems that Ford no longer has this seal (or anyone else to my knowledge). I am hoping that someone here has ran into this before and has a solution.

Notice the increased distance from the bearing to the sealing lip in this photo ..the sealing lip on the new seal in the upper photo lies almost on the bearing, this one just barely engages the seal surface on the axle stub. I can machine the bearing pocket deeper to cause the seal to move farther onto the sealing surface, but that would also cause the bearings to be closer together, and may cause problems there.

Thanks for the reply, but the seal you link to is like the one in the top photo ..this does not work very long. I will give them a call today and see if they have further information on the seal I need.

Before anyone asks ..the sealing surface on the axle stub in question is in good shape, just the seal lip (by design of the seal) is not placed far enough onto it.

I have found there is a serial number break for other parts on this rear axle, so I assume the seal is affected by this as well. The "flat" seal seems to be used in later production axles, mine is number SD4403 built 7-79.

The question would then be where do I get a seal for prior axles? 1978. 1977. etc. or was there also another hub used only on certain axles?

Is the vent tube clear ? If it's plugged up it can cause leaks as soon as the psi builds in the housing. I always drill them out as big as I can when ever I take one out to clean it. IMO the stock hole is too small.

Yup, vents clear.

..BTW: use a small plastic fuel filter on the end of the vent hose to help keep the crud out (the kind used on lawn mowers, with only a screen inside works well).

Gonna take some measurements to see how far I need to machine the hubs to get these seals to work properly. Looks like Ford made the hubs for this axle not Dana, they seem to be oddball for the 12x 2.5" brakes. I found a number from my local Ford dealer, but it looks like a dead end ..62927
