lincoln 460 vs truck 460
 

I have both the Lincoln is a 77 and the one in the truck is a 78 is there any difference and which one would be better for a build. Would like a mildish build. For my truck

Use whichever engine is in the best condition and /or has the lowest mileage.You want to use the one that needs the least overbore if you're doing a complete rebuild.If both are running and you simply want to upgrade what you have,then both are similar as far as specs go.They have the same heads from the factory,compression ratio,crank,rods,pistons and such.Do a compression test and connect a mechanical oil pressure gauge to each engine and bring both to operating temp. to verify pressure.Might want to check head casting numbers as well.None really had performance gains,but some have pedestal mount rockers and some had stud mount rockers.Likely will be D3VE-A.

They are pretty much the same just heard a rumour the truck blocks were thicker

The Lincoln has a fair amount of HP over the truck I believe.
But you could build the truck block with the goodies from the Lincoln.

Up until mid year 79 they used the same blocks. Also there is no particular blocks are thicker or thinner then any other casting numbers.

When your rebuilding them, there is no difference at all.

Also year for year the linclon and the truck versions of the 460 were the same.

If there's no difference in the blocks, why does Dennis Carpenter offer 429/460 truck mount kits and say "Not for Lincoln motors"?

maybe cause either he is confusing the 430 and 462 Lincoln motors with the 429/460 motors that replaced them, or he knows that some other people make the same mistake.

either case a 460 used in a Lincoln, and one used in a Ford or Mercury are the same block.
