Project Ideas

Hello everybody.
Recently I picked a new daily driver (2002 Honda Civic Si) for commuting to work, so now I can store my 94 Lightning for the winter and will be able to do some more extensive mods. Already installed mods are full exhaust(Hooker long tubes, Bassani midpipes sans cats, and Flowmaster 40 series mufflers), Banks Transcommand, long traction bars, electric fans, air intake, and smog delete.

Eventually I want to do a stroker build with it, but I can't afford all that right now. Does anybody have any suggestions for good power adding mods that can be done without pulling the engine? Just kind of wanting a fairly easy winter project.

Thanks! :-wink

Call Stiegemeier 636-949-2275 and get your blower done over and throw a 6lb. lower pulley on it. Pulley LFP 281-385-5339

Call Steig if you have a Cobra. Otherwise, it's an absolute total waste of money for Lightnings.

^Agreed, especially for a GEN 1.

What kind of budget do you have to work with and what kind of power are you after?

1925mosin 10-19-2012 10:29 PM

No clue what stewart and luthier are talking about. I don't have a blower and I don't intend on putting one on.
Eventually I'd like to push over 500 rwhp naturally aspirated, but thats several years down the road. And budget wise eventually i wouldnt mind dropping upwards of 10k in the drive train, but I don't have that kind of money right now or a place to take on a project like that.
As of right now I just kind of want something to do over the winter to add a little more to it. 1k would be my max for this winter since i just started a new job and i'm trying to get some sort of a budget worked out.

Looks like you have the bolt-ons covered already. I'd definately suggest doing a roller cam swap then. You can use the roller hardware (spider, lifters, dogbones) from a 5.0 stang or mid/late 90's F-series pickup, and it's usually less than a 100 bucks. If your rig is still speed density then your cam choices are going to be a limited. A custom grind cam will take the guess work out of choosing an off-the-shelf cam, and it would be something you could sell later on when you plan on doing your next build.

What are you using/doing to tune your rig?

1925mosin 10-21-2012 05:14 PM

As of right now I don't have any tuning software whatsoever. As far as I know the computer is 100% stock. Is there a way to do a cam install without pulling the engine? I don't have a lift or much space in general to work.

Blurry94 10-21-2012 11:08 PM

No need to pull the motor, however, you'll need to remove the radiator and possibly the A/C condenser. I'd also suggest installing an adjustable fuel pressure regulator to help increase the fuel pressure at WOT. Also, look into getting a wideband O2 to monitor your air/fuel ratios and it'll also help dial in your FPR.

Thanks! I think I'm going to look into getting a wideband o2 as well as some tuning software and what not. Any suggestions as to brands or what software/chips to use? I've heard Moates Quaterhorse is good, but I zero experience with tuning or any of the electrical stuff.

i suggest that you go on ebay and get some ford 289 heads i got a set for 200 bucks, look up the different cubic cc's i found a set of e5ea but the same cc head is listed with several different part numbers.

Steigemeier has horrible customer service and refuses to answer certain questions about products he sells. Even after one appears to have damaged a customers blower case.

LFP is a crappy business and rips off other peoples products left and right.

I can provide proof to these statements should anyone request it.

I don't know if you done any transmission upgrades but I just put a Punisher Valve body in my 94 Lightning and it is awesome! Still comfortable to drive but it will chirp the tires on the 1st to 2nd shift. I'm really happy with it!
