Finally after two years

I joined in 2010 and began my hunt.

The clouds parted, the sun shined last week when I found one within driving distance. I thought I would have to go west as the search was taking a long time.

I found a 1970 F100 Ranger XLT with all of the trim intact, body straight as an arrow, with very VERY little rust. I picked her up for 19 Ben Franklins after a little haggling.

I sold my 03 Mach 1 on Weds, then picked up the truck on Thursday evening.

Everything in and on this truck works. EVERYTHING. 302 Auto, black and beautiful.

236 miles of highway travel home, she is now parked and awaiting some love. Not a hiccup during the trip.

-No smoke, no knocks from the motor. Just need to upgrade the ignition, then tune her up right. Rebuild the carb, replace the valve cover gaskets, give the motor a bath.

-Suspension needs help. In dire need of new rear springs. She rides good for 42, but the springs have a sag that matches her age.

-She'll need a new exhaust from manifolds back. Have to get stainless for this area.

-Gut the interior and defunk her from 7,000 miles in 7 years of very limited attention and use from the last owner. Stale in that cab.

I also have a ton of receipts for service dating from 1982 through 2006. I am the third owner.

The wheels HAVE to go. They are 80s model Firebird/Camaro aftermarket types wheels I cannot stand. I will find me some 15x8 steelies and dog dish them. Hoping to find someone with a love for the wheels on her now willing to trade.

This is going to be fun. My youngest, 11 yr old boy is excited to help wrench and if decent enough, may be his in 5 years.

BTW, non-powered drums all around are man-brakes. I haven't had manual brakes since I had my first 74 F100 in the mid-lates 80s... even that truck at least had discs up front.

What an awesome find, I`m jealous as your 1970 XLT looks very nice. Black and so beautiful! Thanks for posting those pictures.
I`m sure the folks in your local NC chapter would like to hear all about it: North Carolina Chapter - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums
