3 valve v10?
I am thinking about another super duty. I have had an 2000 excursion v10, an05 with 6.0 and an 06 f250 with 6.0 and have gotten rid of them for various reasons. So I currently have an 11 suburban 1500 and it doesn't tow worth anything! So I am thinking either an 05 excursion or 08-11 f250 and don't want another diesel. So I would like to find another v10. What years did they ineterduce the 3 valve motor? How do you tell one by looking at it? What are the difference? I know it has one more valve! I am asking performance wise. Is there a big difference and if so please explain! I know they are very popular in the rv's so that most mean something?

05+ for the 3V V10, not sure but i dont think the Excursion ever got the 3V V10..
might be wrong on that thou. nice part with the 3V engine you also get the much improved 5R110 trans.. the 3V has a fair amount more HP/TQ over the 2V engine so its def. worth getting if your looking at buying a truck. |
Absolutely lovemy 3valve. Doesn't come in the X. Only thing better about the 2 valve is the exhaust note IMO
|
3V is way better than the 2V. Cant really stand the sound of any V10 exhaust lol
|
I am not very concerned about the sound. All though I was amazed at how quiet the 2 valve was I had but it didn't sound like any v8 that is for sure! I am just really not looking for another diesel. They are just to loud for me. I guess that is just my preference.
So the 3 valve was never put in the excursions? But has more power. Would it be just a matter of changing the heads? If I find an nice excursion with high mileage is it something not to difficult down the road to replace the engine with a 3 valve? I assume it would be more then just the heads. Computers etc.... My thinking is I really like the excursions and would kind of like to make the ultimate excursion without a diesel. |
The heads cannot just be switched as far as I know.

There is a forum about throwing a 3v in a 2v truck, check it out. It's in the sticky on top of the page. A lot of custom fab work though

wish i still had my 05 3v, it was a towing bear.

theres ALOT more to making a 2V into a 3V then just heads..
its a massive job, i think 1 person here did it, and it was ALOt of work/parts to make it happen.. basicly ur better off to sell ur currrent truck and just buy a 3V equipped truck |
