Building a Prerunner style (tuff truck)
 

I have had this project in the back of my mind for a few years.
Now that i have built my 77 stepside to a mean mud bogger its time to build a fun prerunner that i can use in local tuff truck events.
there are only a handful of rules and none limit what can be done to the truck as long as its safe.
At our local mud bog and tuff truck event there is always this older 4x4 dodge that cleans house because he is the only one that has a built truck.
this year my brother took his stock 2wd 5.0l 96 f150 and due to 2 inch blocks and 33 inch mudders we ran about 5 seconds behind on each run.

So now i have found a truck to build. a 1994 f150 4x4 flareside for 800.
motor and trans are cooked(not sure how you cook both). body is decent and frame is strait.

I was thinking of dumping the speed density engine and harness out of the 94 and running the MAF engine and electronics out of my brothers 2wd f150. cam it with headers and msd ignition and whatever else comes up.

I am planning on building a Baja prerunner style rear suspension.
I believe its along the lines of a four link with the main link arms have the coilover shocks at the mid or forward part of the arm.

Any one have any ideas to help me design something like that?

I would sell the GOOD BODY truck for at least twice what you paid and buy some beat up POS that runs good to destroy

That's what I was thinking Brad. Don't wreck a good truck. They're getting harder to find

Seems like a really expensive setup to put on an old truck. Not to mention that if there is a hidden issue like rot on the frame it wont last long. Here is a setup on a Bronco. Looks absolutely amazing, really well designed and expensive:

That's a pretty sick bronco.

I wouldn't start with a truck that has a good body, those good panels are money that can go back into your build.
