1965 Econoline Intake and Carb Options

I purchased a reman carb for a 170 from Rock Auto to get me by while I do further research. If anyone has any info indicating that the 170 carb will not work on the 240 intake, let me know so I can cancel the order.

On to the fun: I haven't been able to find any info on the fitment of a Clifford or Offy intake to the Econoline. Anybody know if there's enough room without modifying the dog house?

Thanks,

Well, the 170 carb doesn't fit. The mounting studs are larger on the 240 manifold and the throttle linkage is all wrong.

Next up a '67 240 carb. It's a better fit, but the hole where the spark control valve goes is different. It's apparent that the '67 didn't use a spark control valve (or at least not the same style as the '65), but something needs to plug that hole. Can anybody here tell me what goes there, if there's a way around it, or where I can get it?

Thanks,
P

This turning into a real PITA.

I've been all over the internet and all over Charlotte. I can't find a single image of an Autolite 1101 with the style port that is on the one I got from Rock Auto. Everything I've found has shown the same style spark control valve that's on the bad carb I have.

Years ago (over 40) I took the Carb/manifold gasket to napa and had them match a Holley Economizer Carb to it but I did have to open up the mounting hole one size because the offset was slightly different. This was on a 300 six application which should be the same. I know it was a Holley and 90% sure it was a Economizer. If that doesn't work how about auto wrecking yards. Or give Clifford a call and ask them http://www.cliffordperformance.net/h...s/contact.html

Thanks OGB. I think, since I have the '67 carb in hand, I will try just plugging of the holes in that odd port and see how the van runs.

BTW: If my computer had not caught on fire I would use that to post here and include pictures. Since it did catch on fire, I'm using my phone and cannot include pictures.

sounds like lately if you didn't have bad luck you wouldn't have any luck at all.

You wouldn't believe it if I told you. ;-)

Offy and Clifford intakes will not work in our dog houses. Edelbrock will but they are rare and expensive when found.
