2001 supercrew 4wd

Ok finally got back in 4wd truck bin yrz
question, when 4wd is off [turn knob on dash] what should be turnin with wheels?

Bluegrass 7 09-18-2012 07:44 PM

I guess you mean the front wheels!
When 4x4 is off, the road turns the wheels.
The front drive is done out of the transmission, front drive shaft and actuator on the front axle.
What specifically are you asking?

sorry

question is on front drive, if i have 4wd off, will cv joint or drive shaft turn with wheels?
if I jacked up one front tire and spun it, would anything else turn with it ,with 4wd turned off

Yes the cv shafts will turn with the wheel.
The front hubs have the c/v splined into them and they go into the front differencial case.
To keep the front wheels from binding in turns there is a slid joint the front vacuum actuator engage when 4x4 is uses.
The drive shaft also turns but in the transfer case there's no hookup until the transfer case motor turns a shaft to engage it.
If you have not had 4x4 for a long time, it's very different and complex from the old time way.
There are vacuum solenoids involved, an electronic module and a dash switch and transfer case motor..
To get in 4L, put in neutral, foot on brake and turn switch to 4L. The 4L light should light and the transmission should shift at different speeds in each gear from what it normally does...
4L is done this way to prevent damage and accident from the radical change in gearing you would never want to have happen at speed.
Good luck.
