Rear End Swap

1969 Ford F100, Looking for a rear end swap to upgrade to disc and limited slip? Not sure there is a option but going have 400hp+ and considering 4 link. So want to look at a swap as opposed to just adding disc to what came stock, I would but want to spin both tires not just one:-jammin

Not exactly a bolt-in swap since it's a Bumpside but what you'll want to aim for is a Ford 9-inch with 31-spline axles and a Detroit Locker or Detroit TrueTrac. Depending on its planned use, also consider 35-spline axles, 1350 U-joint, and a yoke by Strange or Moser.

4-link? Ya'd better know how to weld or are in good with a fab/race shop. Otherwise, call Currie Enterprises (cha-ching, cha-ching).

You do not need nor will you benefit from rear disc brakes in a 70's truck. For a posi, buy a Detroit Locker and call it done. You'll benefit more from a 73-79 front disc brake conversion than you will from a rear disc set-up.
Why do you want a 4-link? Is this a straight line truck or a daily driver?

1968/72 F100's offered two different 9" rear axles. The Dana 60.3 (not a Dana 60!) with Limited Slip was also available. Dana's have an inspection cover, 9's do not.

1) 9" with 28 spline axle shafts with or without Limited Slip. 3,300 lb. rear axle capacity.

2) 9" with a 9 3/8" ring gear, 31 spline axle shafts with Traction-Lok. 3,600 lb. rear axle capacity.

9 vs 9 3/8: Only 5 parts are the same: Housing gasket, one pinion bearing and race, pilot bearing retainer and the pinion seal. EVERYTHING else is different!

1973/79 F100, 1975/79 F150: Some have 28 spline axle shafts, some have 31 spline axle shafts. Some have Limited Slip, some do not.

1973/79 F100/150's have wider rear frame rails (behind the cab) (37 1/2") than 1961/72 F100's (33 1/2").

Some 1974/79 9's have a tapered roller axle bearing/seal combination. 1973's, some 1974/79's have a ball axle bearing, separate seal.

And, some 1976/79 F100/150's came with Dana 44 rear axles with or without Limited Slip. If you see an inspection cover, pass!

If the AXLE code stamped on the Warranty Plate begins with a letter: Limited Slip / If with a number: No Limited Slip.

So I ordered the wide ride IFS coil over from no limit this Friday and will pick up in a couple days. Considering the drop spindles? I have been doing some research it seems once I pick the gears adding a Detroit locker or similar is the right move. This isn't my daily driver just something for fun on weekends!:-X06. Got my work area set up truck on dolly work begins tomorrow.

My tag on my rear end is hard to read but it says its a 3.70, How can I figure out the Spline 28 or 31? Which 9" rear has a limited slip I can grab the pumpkin? Or grab the whole thing and get Disc brakes?

Added the no limit rear kit for coil overs. Will have power brakes and power steering when all done.
