Diff locker out of 2011+ on older
 

I have an 06 f 250, and was wondering if it would be possible to either swap a whole JY axle with locker, out of a 2011, and make the locker work? Or even, just pull the locker, and swap it in to the current pig?

Adam why not buy the correct locking diff for your truck then just replace that part, I have installed lots of locking diff cases....no fussing either

I agree, was just curious if it would work? Plus A guy such as myself may find a whole axle cheap, however the gear ratio would be different, so I was just thinking out loud, that maybe it would be a fairly easy mod.

If yer not in a hurry maybe you'll find a unit some where.....there cant be that many 2011s in the bone yard huh, did you price out a locker from ''Detroit'' or ''Eaton'' or''ARB''

You should be able to get it to work Adam.

I can't find the thread right off but one of the guys on here has swapped just the ELD into his older truck and it's working.

I'll do some more digging and post the link if I can find it.

I'm sure it could be done, but I'm willing to bet that one of the aftermarket vendors would be a more cost effective approach. But the factory one is, if I remember right, electrically actuated. Which means that it shouldn't be hard to make work with a simple switch if you were to find an axle. :confused:

Neither Eaton nor Detroit have an electronic diff for the Super Duty.

ARB only has air.

You can fit a 2011 e-locker into an earlier truck, but it is not a bolt in swap. This thread covers the major issues you will encounter, especially posts #28 and 33. The newer axles do not have the VSS and ABS sensors like the older trucks.

Thanks Guy's! I work in a Big A.....Place, with a full on machine shop! Now to find an axle to rob.......Someday! Maybe I could use one of them upfitters burning holes in my dash!

Don't be afraid of air. ARB is a top quality product. Aside from my own experience with lots of rigs who run them, look at all the competition rock crawlers and offroad racers. If it's selectable (vs Detroit) then it's almost always an ARB. Very reliable, very strong.

Yukon also makes their Zip air locker for the 10.5. Probably worth a look.

How much offroading are you actually going to be doing?

If/when I need to address the limited slip unit in my truck I will put a TrueTrac in.

I ran a TruTrac before. It was great, except reverse. This really was about me wondering about an electric locker. I don't want ARB as I don't want to deal with air compressor's, or leaking lines.

What about reverse?

I'd like a differential that was limited slip and a selectable locker when needed. I don't need a locker all the time and sometimes it's nice to have a limited slip when your in the rocks or in grass, because you don't want to lock it every time that you are going to drive in some grass or making a quick turn in rocks.
