Helping the old man out

OK I posted this on the super duty thread but no help there my dad asked me to ask around for what would yall recommend what ball joints he should get for his truck its a 97 f250 heavy duty with a 460 indipendent suspension 4wd and its GVW is 8600

Motorcraft has good ball joints. I would just get the versions with the grease fittings so you can grease them. You can get them at Rock Auto for a decent price.

I don't have an answer for you, but it is interesting that there seems to be a hole there that your father's truck falls into. The Super/Heavy duty forum says it is for trucks 1999 to current, and under the "Older, Classic & Antique Trucks" group there is a forum covering 1987 - 1996. There is an F-150 forum that covers that range, but nothing for the heavy duty trucks that I see. Did the 1997-1998 heavy duty trucks fall into a sink hole? :-huh

Did you try the Brakes, Steering, Suspension, Tires, & Wheels - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums? It's at least the general area that you are looking for and does not appear to be limited by the year of the vehicle like the others. Hope you find the help you're seeking.

The f150s switched to a new chassis in 1997. The f350 carried over with the old truck chassis for 1997, then they skipped 1998 entirely, and started with the new Super Duties in 1998 as a 1999 model. Confusing.

Technically, the 1997 heavy F250 is a '96 truck. I've tried a few times to come up with a way to describe the -96 forum as such, but never got it right...

I second the Motorcraft thing - while Rockauto is a sponsor, check Amazon too... that's where I got the ones for my '01 - with Amazon Prime, shipping was 2-days for free...

On my '97, I replaced with Mogs.
