285v-31 tranny to 302 cleveland
G'Day from WA (Western Australia). I have a 1970 F700 tipper fitted with the Clark 285v gear box and two speed diff. The current motor is the 300 in line six, I am thinking of replacing the motor with a 302 cleveland. My question is will the 302 and Clark bolt together, if not what will I need bell housing etc??
Any help/ideas greatly appreciated. Crofty :-hair |
302 c and 300 six have the same bell pattern, right? If so, it should work. Check starter location, I think the six bell works on the V8.
The clutch might be a question mark. You can probably use the same disc, but will the pressure plate bolt to the 302c flywheel? If not, you might have to find a pressure plate that fits the 302c that is the same diameter as the clutch disc you have. That could be interesting if it's 12" or larger. |
I don't think they use the same bellhousing. The 300 and the 302 Windsor use the same one, but the 302 Cleveland was one of those rare "Australia Model Only" deal I believe. I believe it uses the same bellhousing as the 351 Cleveland. What other engines that bellhousing is used on I am not sure, so somebody with more experience will have to chime in.

351C is the SBF pattern, same as the 300 six. That does not mean they are the same bell though, as depth and starter location could be issues.

Thanks for the infomation guys, It has given me a starter point, sounds like a 351c would be a better choice, will have to check starter mount and maybe spigott bush, things of that nature.
