Shocks For Leveling Kit on 1999 F250 SD 2WD
 

I am currently purchasing the components for a leveling kit on my 1999 F250 SD 2WD. I got the 2" aluminum spacers and now I am working on the shocks for it. I will be using a shock conversion that will use the eye ring bushing rather than the OE stud mount.

My question is...What length shocks should I got with? 0"-2" or 2"-4" of lift? And any recommendations on the brand and style of shock would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

What eye ring bushing conversion kit are you using? Depending on how and where it mounts will determine what length shock you need.

Plus, I would be interested in seeing the option. I ended up welding an extension onto my stud to get a longer shock for my leveling kit. The shocks I found for a 2" lift had a ride quality that was much less than desirable.

These are the ones that I was considering. It extends the mounting location about 1 1/8" away from OE location.

That would bw 1 1/8" away from the center of the eye. Add another 1/2" - 3/4" or so from the center of the eye to the top of the shock and you'd probably be best off finding a shock that has what is considered the standard length since your new mount will take up almost as much room as your coil spacer will.

The problem is going to be finding a shock with those dimensions, that has a round eye top and bottom, and offers the same amount of travel. I hope you find something. I didn't have any luck when I searched, which is why I ended up welding the extensions on my shock studs and used some spacers to make it all fit right.

That's what I was thinking. I figured that should just go with the 0"-2" length because with the addition of the shock conversion, it would be as the the shock was still at stock length. Just wanted to make I had the right idea. I was thinking that a Rancho RS9000XL might work for my application....

No, that won't work. You can't use a 4wd shock on a 2wd truck. The 4wd mount bolts to the frame and extends above the frame so they're not even close to being the same size.

The 2wd shock has a compressed length around 10.3" and a fully extended length around 15.3". That gives you about 5" of travel.

The 4wd shock for the same year model, or more specifically, your Rancho Shock that you mention has limits of

Rancho RS999264 shock. Compressed length: 15.625" Extended length: 24.375"
Travel: 8.750"

So that means by the time you install the eye mount, you cannot even compress the 4wd shock enough to install it, much less have any travel for absorbing any shock.

If you want to look into shocks, look at this site Rancho, Bilstein, Pro Comp and Fabtech Shocks

They are nice enough to give you dimensions on different shocks if you think you find the correct model number. You can also look around here since Rancho is a sponsor here. They have someone who has been quite helpful in the past trying to help find shocks for odd applications.

He helped me find a longer shock that would possibly work with the standard mounting configuration, but the shock proved to be too long for the rough roads I travel. Bottoming the shocks out proved to be the end of them.

Many others have had no issues at all just running the stock 2wd front shock. As usual, I wasn't one of the lucky ones.

These speficially for F250 2WD with a 2" lift. Anyone run these Scorpion shocks before? Thanks for all of the help!

Yes, I tried those and one other brand I got from 4 wheel parts. They suck. The ride quality is pathetic with those.
