Brief stall when put into reverse

Yesterday left the truck idling for a while, hopped back in to back up the trailer pulled the shifter into reverse (automatic trans) and the truck had a brief stall. No so much that the engine died completely, but the rpms dropped off, and the check engine light came on. It also has done the same thing to me once when I left it idling and got back in and switched the A/C on.

I have changed the cps sensor with a ford replacement 1000 miles ago because of stalling while highway driving. This seems like the same kind of stall I was getting then. Do you think this could be another cps sensor problem? Im on my second one in 5000 miles. Thanks for any help

Mine has done this in the past and it will fire back up. (after re-reading your post, mine actually died). This is a strange issue that since its so irregular there isn’t a go to item to check. This is from a post back in 07.

TJ i was looking in the manual last night and the only sensors tied to the brake pedal are the BOO (Brake ON/Off Switch) and BPA (Brake Pressure Applied). The BPA is routed in the same harness as the CPS and several other engine critical sensors in the leg between the PCM connector and where the BPA leg braches off just before the 42pin over the valve cover. I would check real close for a chaffed wire from the BPA that may be shorting one of the sensors.

Most of these issues are caused by low trans fluid. Warm up the trans and check it on a level surface idling in park.
