Very very nice work. Its nice to do a new truck. Most people dont have that
roayalty. One question, where in the world did you get the side ways spin on
oil filter. I've been looking for years and cant find one. That allows using a
two quart filter. Your choice but I would put a dump body rather a flat bed,
they are way more versatal. Most of mine are 9 foot 7yd you can put 10yds
and then I built a (box) goes in the side boards, with barn doors so it doubles
as a van, I covered this with 4x8 sheets tin, and looks like factory. Why? we are
adding on the shop, truck goes to Home Depot gets lumber, lumber stays in
dump truck / van, high and dry. barn doors closed all locked up. When I dont
need it, simply pluck it off, and back hauling gravel again. Too bad I cant put
pics in threads like other forums.
Excellent work
Sam

Thanks for all the positive comments everyone.
As far as the e-brake band being painted... Darn right!! LOL even though I won't drive this truck in the salt and snow, it is a harsh climate here. Everything will be protected as best I can from the elements. The parking brake drum is powder-coated!
As far as the oil filter swing. Yeah that is a nice feature. That was installed before I got the truck. I plan on putting a remote oil filter onto that. The ram horns exhaust I put on might be a bit close to the filter. I'll make the final determination on that down the road.
I would google 1957 lincoln spin on oil filter, as that was the first year they offered a spin on. Then when you find the part number for that, look for one on evil bay or something. They are all lincoln y blocks so they should fit. However that being said I'm not an expert.... ask around somebody has to know for sure.
I'm guessing being Ford, you could probably get one from summit racing or something....

That's a great looking F8 and very good work you have done!

Thank you for the positive comments. It is a very low mileage, great running former fire truck. Being a fire truck it spent most of its life inside. Good part is now that there is paint on the entire cab, I can actually start putting it back together!!

Where did you get those cab handles? Those would sure make it easier to get into the truck.

They look like these...

pilot31 07-06-2014 04:51 PM

Door handles/grab handles came from LMC truck. They come as a set for approximately $30.
I think that's very reasonable, considering your less apt to wear out your seat getting in and out of the truck
Part number is 38-1941.
I did not use the screws that came with them. I used stainless bolts with nice thick washers and by lock nuts to spread the pressure on the cab so as not to distort the metal.
