1952 Ford F-8
Turned the corner so to speak, actually putting some paint on, putting things together and not just taking things apart.
Heres some engine pics. More in my album. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/p...957130&thumb=1https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/p...957351&thumb=1https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/p...957130&thumb=1 https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/p...957237&thumb=1https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/p...957351&thumb=1https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/p...129433&thumb=1:D |

Yes, "lots of colors"...:) The engine block and valve covers are the same colors that I found under all the grease and dirt. I did get the decals for the valve covers repoped and will put them on soon. The other colors I took a bit of "liberty" with. Thought I'd give the engine a bit of bling here and there. Plus painting the oil cap red will help me find it down the road when I've misplaced it during an oil change!!
This was Fords first OHV engine and its actually a lincoln y-block. It's a 317 CI displacement. |
SWEEEEEET!!!!!

Stephen67, sorry I missed answering your question...My "plan" is to either put an oak wooden body or perhaps a Rollback on it. I have a 1951 F-1 and was thinking it would be fun to bring both to a carshow "piggy back". I had even entertained thought of making both trucks the same in paint scheme, etc. The F-1 being a "Mini-Me" of the F-8.
I will make a final decision later in the build. Then again my kid is getting into horse lessons, I'll need a rig to haul a horse eventually....LOL |
Ha, that's a neat idea. Just tell everyone the F-1 is the spare tire to the F-8, lol.

Got some more progress done. Got the firewall painted. Used single stage urethane in candy apple red. Came out pretty good I think!!
sorry the pics are sideways....:-jammin https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/p...197695&thumb=1https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/p...197695&thumb=1https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/p...197695&thumb=1 |
Just about done replacing the wheel cylinders and one new bearing on the rear of the old F-8. Took a while to get all the parts lined up and cleaned up. The last picture in the series will show the sandblaster I got to clean such big parts. For 175 bucks it is well worth it. Anyhow these hubs are VERY heavy. I have a good floor jack, a strong back, and a week mind, a perfect combination for heavy things that need moving. Yes, I painted or powder coated everything. Even the wheel cylinders got taken apart and shot with a coat of caliper paint! I'm tired of rust...I still need to get an outer wheel bearing, the one I purchased is apparently the wrong one. But at least I'm still making progress! When this one is done, I only have the other three wheels to go, and one Hydrovac to be rebuilt!!

Not sure I'm happy with the color choice, but it's -2F today, probably good enough till summer.

It is nice to see it going back together.

You even painted the parking brake band! To quote Gary Larson ("Far Side") "She's lookin' good, Vern!"
